The eye of the storm is in the Quang Tri - Da Nang sea area, moving very quickly and is forecast to cause a dangerous combination of strong winds, large waves, rising water and extremely heavy rain, threatening provinces from Thanh Hoa to Da Nang.

According to the update at 2:00 p.m. on September 28, the center of storm No. 10 is at about 17.2 degrees North latitude; 108.1 degrees East longitude. The storm is currently about 90km East Northeast of Hue city and about 165km South Southeast of Northern Quang Tri . The strongest wind near the center of the storm remains at level 12 (118-133km/h), gusting to level 15.

The storm is moving rapidly in the West-Northwest direction at a speed of about 20-25km/h. This is a fast-moving, strong storm with a wide range of influence, which can cause a combination of many types of natural disasters such as strong winds, heavy rains, floods, flash floods, landslides and coastal flooding.

Strong winds, big waves and rising water

  • At sea:
    • The sea area from Thanh Hoa to Quang Ngai has strong winds of level 11-12, gusts of level 15, waves from 6.0-8.0 meters high, and very rough seas. The destructive potential is extremely high, the waves are extremely strong, and can sink large ships.
    • The Northern Gulf of Tonkin has strong winds of level 8-9, gusts of level 11, and waves 3.0-5.0 meters high.
  • On land:
    • The area from Thanh Hoa to Northern Quang Tri (near the storm center) will have strong winds of level 10-12, gusting to level 14. The wind force can knock down trees, houses, and electric poles, causing very heavy damage.
    • Coastal areas from Quang Ninh to Ninh Binh have winds gradually increasing to level 6-7, gusting to level 8-10.
  • Storm surge and coastal flooding: Coastal areas from Hung Yen to Ha Tinh will see water levels rise from 0.5 to 1.5 meters, with Thanh Hoa and Nghe An experiencing levels of 1.0 to 1.5 meters. There is a high risk of flooding on the morning of September 29 in low-lying coastal areas.

Warning: Weather at sea and in coastal areas during the storm is extremely dangerous, unsafe for any vehicle or structure operating in the danger zone.

Widespread heavy rain

  • Total rainfall (from afternoon of September 28 to September 30):
    • The Northern Delta region, Phu Tho, southern Son La and Lao Cai, from Thanh Hoa to northern Quang Tri will have heavy to very heavy rain, commonly from 200-400mm, locally over 600mm.
    • The North and the area from Thanh Hoa to Da Nang city have total rainfall from 100-300mm, locally over 450mm.
  • Risk: Warning of heavy rain (over 200mm/3 hours), potential risk of flash floods, landslides and deep flooding.
