(CT) - On October 9, in Can Tho City, the National Agricultural Extension Center under the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MARD) coordinated with the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Can Tho City to organize a seminar on "Application of technologies in management of high-quality, low-emission rice cultivation in the Mekong Delta region".

Ms. Nguyen Thi Giang, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Can Tho City, discussed with delegates at the seminar.

The seminar was organized to share results and experiences from practical application of technology in management, monitoring and measurement of greenhouse gas emissions in high-quality and low-emission rice cultivation models in the Mekong Delta. These are models that have been deployed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment in coordination with relevant localities and units in recent times to implement the Project on sustainable development of one million hectares of high-quality and low-emission rice cultivation associated with green growth in the Mekong Delta by 2030 (the Project on one million hectares of rice).

According to the Institute of Agriculture and Environment, through the results of implementing the MRV process (measurement, reporting, appraisal) in high-quality and low-emission rice cultivation models carried out in Can Tho City, Vinh Long, Dong Thap, An Giang and Ca Mau provinces, it shows that the models have the ability to reduce emissions from 3.7-4.6 tons of CO 2 equivalent/ha/crop. Model managers have understood and practiced MRV activities quite proficiently, and at the same time have contributed opinions and feedback to functional units and appraisal levels on MRV adjustment, cultivation processes, etc.

At the seminar, delegates listened to reports and assessments on MRV activities in high-quality and low-emission rice cultivation models. At the same time, they were updated and provided with information on models and good practices in applying digital technology , IoT, smart irrigation, field management, as well as technologies for measuring greenhouse gas emissions and soil nutrients to serve the One Million Hectare Rice Project; experiences and practical lessons in linking production along the value chain, tracing origin, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Delegates also exchanged, discussed, and proposed solutions, orientations, and support policies to replicate effective models throughout the region.
