Early ripening pink lychee is being sold on the online market for more than 100,000 VND/kg.

In recent days, online markets have begun to sell early-ripening lychees at prices double or triple the normal price. Sellers say that this is a variety of U Hong lychee, grown widely in Dak Lak.

Pink lychee is harvested from April to June every year. This type of lychee has the advantage of plump, pinkish fruit, each fruit is about the size of a chicken egg, has a slightly sweet and sour taste, not as sweet as the lychee grown in the North.

"This year, lychee output has decreased, only 40-50% compared to last year, plus transportation costs have also increased, so the price of U Hong lychee is very high. Currently, the purchase price at the garden is from 40,000-60,000 VND/kg for grade 1 goods, when it reaches the hands of traders, the price can be up to more than 100,000 VND/kg", said a U Hong lychee garden owner in Dak Lak.

Ms. Kieu Oanh, a lychee grower in Dak Lak, added that grade 1 lychees, grown according to VietGAP standards, will be more expensive, up to more than 100,000 VND/kg, while grade 2 and 3 lychees will be cheaper, around 70,000 VND/kg.

Currently, Dak Lak's early pink litchi is mainly supplied to the Southern market, only a few online traders in the North import small quantities to sell in advance.

An online trader in Hanoi shared that she directly imported the first season of U Hong lychee from Dak Lak and started selling it 3 days ago. Every time the goods arrived, they sold out. Many customers wanted to buy in large quantities, but the store did not have enough to pay, so they had to make arrangements for customers to pick them up later.

"This year, the lychee crop was poor, so each time I imported goods, I could only import a small quantity, only about 15 - 20 kg of good quality goods. The price of lychees at the beginning of the season is still high, so customers usually only buy 2 - 3 kg to enjoy early and not buy in large quantities," this person said.

In addition to Dak Lak's U Hong litchi, the U Hong Phu Cu litchi variety (Hung Yen) is also attracting customers. Ms. Lan, an online fruit importer in Hai Phong, said that this litchi variety is not available in large quantities, and is even rarer at the beginning of the season, so its price is as high as the U Hong litchi variety grown in Dak Lak.

" Hung Yen lychee has large fruit, red skin, sweet and fragrant, often sought after by many gourmets to enjoy. Currently, I am selling this type of lychee at a price of 70,000 - 90,000 VND/kg.

Because this lychee variety is rare and it's early in the season, the output is still low and not many goods have been imported. Meanwhile, customer demand is high, so the stock is constantly out of stock. I just ordered more than 100kg of lychee to continue selling, but I'm worried that I won't have enough to pay my customers," said Ms. Lan.
