The first Vietnamese athlete won the freestyle ball world championship

The WFFA NextGen World Championship 2024 U16 Freestyle Ball Championship ended on the evening of December 22 with a dramatic final match between Can Minh Duc and Joshua Meehan (Luxembourg). Delivering a performance with many difficult techniques, the Vietnamese representative was awarded a perfect score of 3-0 by the judges and officially won the championship this year. This is the first time Vietnam has had a champion at a world freestyle ball tournament.

The WFFA NextGen World Championship 2024 is the most important tournament for young athletes pursuing freestyle football around the world. This year's competition takes place online with the participation of 50 contestants from 30 countries.

Can Minh Duc and coach Do Kim Phuc were happy to hear the news of winning the championship.

In the top 16 round, Can Minh Duc overcame the strong opponent Finley Strangewood from the UK. In the quarter-finals, Duc continued to defeat the opponent from Poland Blazej Mlynek. The semi-final match was extremely emotional when the representative of Vietnam won an absolute victory against the championship candidate from Japan, Yuki Shimoshuga, and continued to do the same against the representative of Luxembourg in the final match.

Sharing his feelings after becoming the world champion of freestyle juggling, Can Minh Duc could not hide his joy: “Against very strong opponents in the world, I used all my skills and was truly overwhelmed when my name was announced as the winner. After many tournaments, failures and many injuries, I have now achieved the first success in my freestyle juggling career. It will be a stepping stone for me to reach further goals in the future.”

Can Minh Duc was born in 2009, from Ha Giang . Having been involved in freestyle ball since 2021, Duc soon showed his talent and started training with his senior Do Kim Phuc - the 2013 Asian freestyle ball champion. Besides Can Minh Duc's championship, Do Kim Phuc also helped Danh Quang and Ang Tuan win the world runner-up position at SuperBall 2022 with their lion dance.

Notably, the duo mainly communicated remotely. Coach Do Kim Phuc mainly instructed Can Minh Duc online so that the young athlete could practice at home. At the WFFA NextGen World Championship 2024, Can Minh Duc also competed in the form of online livestream at the same time as his opponent.
