Phu Tho's 3-0 victory over Lebanon at Viet Tri Stadium on the evening of June 5 helped Vietnam win a ticket to the 2024 AFC U20 Women's Championship finals.

16-year-old player Ngoc Minh Chuyen scored a double, and captain Le Thi Bao Tram scored the remaining goal to make the big win for Vietnam. With the 3-2 win over Iran in the opening round, the team has six points to rank second in Group A of the second qualifying round of the 2024 AFC U20 Women's Championship. Vietnam is currently equal on points with Australia, but ranked behind, due to an inferior goal difference (+8 compared to +4).
This result helps Vietnam and Australia to qualify for the final round one round early. On the evening of June 7, the two teams will face off to determine the first and second place in the group.
Previously, Vietnam passed the first qualifying round also held in Phu Tho in March 2023. The team defeated Indonesia 3-0, Singapore 11-0 and drew India 1-1 to enter the second qualifying round.
Apart from Australia and Vietnam, the 2024 AFC U20 Women's Championship has already confirmed four teams, including host Uzbekistan, defending champion Japan, runner-up DPR Korea and third-placed South Korea. The remaining two teams will be determined after Group B of the second qualifying round begins, including host Myanmar, China, Nepal and Taiwan.
Including 2024, Vietnam has participated in the final round six times in 2004, 2009, 2011, 2017 and 2019. The best achievement was reaching the quarter-finals in 2004 in China.
Since its first event in 2002, the tournament has been held 10 times. Japan has won the most with six times in 2002, 2009, 2011, 2015, 2017, 2019. Following are South Korea - 2004, 2013, China - 2006 and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea - 2007.
The 2024 AFC U-20 Women's Championship will be held from March 3 to 16, 2024 in Uzbekistan, with eight teams divided into two groups. The champions, runners-up and third-placed teams will qualify for the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup.
