Leaders of Tan Tien commune, Lang Son province confirmed that the Bac Khe hydroelectric dam in Bac Khe village in the commune broke more than 5 meters long at about 1:35 p.m. on October 7 and could break further.
Local authorities and functional forces have evacuated all people in the downstream area to safety.
According to initial information, from early morning on October 7, the authorities inspected and discovered that this hydroelectric dam had signs of cracks and was at risk of breaking, so they notified the people and, together with the local authorities, evacuated all the people in 4 villages downstream of the hydroelectric dam, about 200-300 households, to a safe place.
This is a small hydroelectric plant, the reservoir capacity is only about 3-4 million m3 .
The broken hydroelectric dam, the water rushing in combined with heavy rain in recent days could have caused flooding in neighboring communes, but flash floods did not occur.
Currently, because areas in Tan Tien commune and neighboring communes such as That Khe, Trang Dinh... have also been flooded due to heavy rain in recent days, the authorities are trying to reach the scene.
