On the evening of September 22, Thinh Phat's hat-trick helped the Vietnamese futsal team beat host China 7-2 in the second match of Group E of the 2026 Asian Futsal Championship qualifiers.
In the opening match, the Vietnamese futsal team won 9-1 against Hong Kong, while China lost 1-2 to Lebanon. Therefore, the home team must beat the Vietnamese futsal team to keep their hopes of advancing.
But the huge gap in expertise did not allow China (ranked 85th in the world ) to do what it wanted against the Vietnamese futsal team (ranked 26th in the world).
Within the first 3 minutes, the Vietnamese futsal team led China 3-0, including a double by Vu Ngoc Anh.
It was not until the 7th minute that China had their first chance. However, the opposing player missed the target.
Two minutes later, the home team almost scored if Thinh Phat had not promptly cleared the ball off the crossbar. After this play, coach Diego Giustozzi immediately called the whole team to a meeting.
Back on the field, the Vietnamese futsal team immediately scored to increase the score to 4-0 in the 10th minute. Da Hai competed legally with the opponent, took the ball and then coolly finished when facing the goalkeeper.
In the 16th minute, Thinh Phat jumped in to score, raising the score to 5-0 after a pass from Ngoc Anh.
In the second half, the Vietnamese futsal team continued to control the game. Two minutes into the second half, the Chinese goalkeeper had to make two consecutive saves.
In the 30th minute, the Chinese player shot from midfield quite unexpectedly. But goalkeeper Van Tu was still alert and pushed the ball away to save the goal.
Three minutes later, Thinh Phat scored two consecutive goals (minutes 33 and 34), bringing the Vietnamese futsal team to a 7-0 lead, and also scoring a hat-trick of his own.
Not accepting such an "unimaginable" defeat, the Chinese futsal team attacked to find an equalizer. As a result, the home team scored two honorary goals in the 37th and 39th minutes, ending the match with a score of 2-7.
In the remaining match, Lebanon only drew 1-1 with Hong Kong, so they lost the top spot to the Vietnamese futsal team.
On September 24, the Vietnamese futsal team will meet Lebanon in the final round to determine the top spot in the group.
