On October 9, Times Higher Education (THE) announced the world's best university rankings in 2026.
Two more Vietnamese universities appear in THE university rankings
Among the 11 Vietnamese representatives in the THE 2026 rankings, Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics (UEH) continues to hold the highest position, ranked in the global 501-600 group (equivalent to last year's ranking, when UEH first appeared in this ranking and is also the new school with the highest ranking among the 9 Vietnamese representatives in 2025).
Following that are Duy Tan University and Ton Duc Thang University, respectively ranked in the 601-800 group (same ranking as last year).
Notably, two new higher education institutions appeared in the rankings for the first time: Nguyen Tat Thanh University in the 1001-1200 group and Da Nang University in the 1501+ group.
The remaining Vietnamese representatives all maintained their rankings from last year: Hanoi Medical University and Ho Chi Minh City Open University maintained their positions in the 801-1000 and 1201-1500 groups.
Meanwhile, Hanoi National University, Ho Chi Minh City National University and Hanoi University of Science and Technology are all in the 1501+ group.

Ranking of Vietnamese higher education institutions in THE World University Rankings 2026
THE World University Rankings measure research-intensive universities across all core missions: teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.
THE 2026 rankings are based on 18 key indicators, divided into five main criteria groups: teaching quality (29.5%), research environment (29%), research quality (30%), international outlook (7.5%) and technology transfer (4%).
Oxford University continues to maintain its global top position
THE's 2026 rankings include 2,191 higher education institutions from 115 countries and territories.
This year, the rankings have seen some notable changes, with universities from China and India rising in particular. China has five institutions in the top 40 (up from three last year) and India has the second-highest number of universities in the top 40, after the US.
Hong Kong (China) also made a strong impression when it had 6 universities in the top 200 of the THE 2026 rankings.
Meanwhile, the US and UK continue to dominate with top universities such as Oxford University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Princeton University.
The University of Oxford (UK) remains firmly at No. 1 in the world rankings in 2026, marking the 10th consecutive year the school has held the top spot. The achievement is attributed to the strong research environment, an important factor helping Oxford maintain its top position.
Another highlight in the rankings is the significant rise of Princeton University (USA), which has moved up to third place, sharing this position with another university.
