On the afternoon of October 17, Cuu Long University organized a national scientific conference with the theme "Training in the health sector at Cuu Long University - Opportunities and challenges". The conference was held in parallel in two forms: in-person and online.

Attending the workshop were leaders of health departments and hospitals in provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta region and about 500 scientists who are leading experts in the field of health sciences.
On the side of Cuu Long University, there were Master Le Ton Duc Hoa - Chairman of the University Council; Meritorious Teacher, Associate Professor, Doctor Luong Minh Cu - Party Committee Secretary, Principal; teachers in the University Council; Senior Advisory Board of the Board of Directors; representatives of leaders of faculties, departments, centers under the university and about 2,000 delegates who are lecturers of the health sciences sector, alumni of the health sciences sector and students.
In his opening speech at the conference, Distinguished Educator Luong Minh Cu briefly discussed the training situation in the medical field and health sector in the world , in Vietnam, the Mekong Delta region and Cuu Long University.
Faced with new challenges and trends, improving the quality of health training at Cuu Long University is an inevitable requirement. The school needs to synchronously implement solutions such as: Innovating training programs towards capacity and integration; developing a team of high-quality lecturers; enhancing facilities and clinical simulation rooms; promoting cooperation and clinical practice; enhancing inspection and quality assurance.
To improve the quality of training in the health sector, the President of Cuu Long University requested delegates and scientists to focus on discussing the main contents such as: Opportunities and challenges in training in the fields of Medicine, Traditional Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy domestically and internationally. Opportunities and challenges in training in the fields of Nursing, Midwifery domestically and internationally. Opportunities and challenges in training in the fields of Medical Laboratory Technology, Medical Imaging Technology, Rehabilitation Technology domestically and internationally. Solutions to improve the quality of training in the health sector at undergraduate and postgraduate levels at Cuu Long University.

Pay attention to supporting tuition fees for medical students, especially those who commit to work in remote areas after graduation. Regularly update and standardize training programs through reviewing and adjusting training programs according to regulations.

To meet the demand for medical human resources for the whole country as well as for Vinh Long province in the new context, as an agency using medical human resources, Ms. Duong Thi Nhu Ngoc - Deputy Director of the Department of Health of Vinh Long province - proposed 6 solutions to improve medical human resources: Regularly update training programs according to competency standards and professional practice laws. Link training with practice at hospitals and grassroots health care. Focus on medical ethics training. Train and standardize foreign language skills. Equip digital transformation skills in health. Dr. Nguyen Cong Cuu of Cuu Long University proposed short-term and long-term solutions to enhance international cooperation in internships, jobs and lecturer-student exchanges, specifically: Short-term solutions are to sign MOUs with international universities and hospitals. Establish units to support international internships and jobs. Enhance foreign language training (Japanese, Korean, German, ...) for students. Long-term solutions are to build dual degree programs, international accreditation. Integrate international cooperation in the entire training program. Develop joint research groups, publish international publications annually.

The workshop aims to create opportunities for exchanging and connecting knowledge between scientists in the field of health sciences. On this occasion, Cuu Long University organized a signing ceremony of cooperation with 7 hospitals and enterprises in the fields of education, training, and scientific research, expanding opportunities for health students to participate in internships and practice at hospitals.
