"Vietnam U23 has qualified for the 2026 AFC U23 Championship finals in Saudi Arabia after Nguyen Thanh Nhan scored in the second half to help coach Kim Sang Sik's team win 1-0 against Yemen and top Group F on the evening of September 9," the AFC homepage commented in its report on the results of Group C - a group that saw Vietnam U23 take the top spot with 3 wins in a row.

As expected by fans, U23 Vietnam played well to win all 3 points against U23 Yemen in the final match of the 2026 U23 Asian qualifiers held at home in Viet Tri ( Phu Tho ).
After a difficult first half against U23 Yemen's deep defense, coach Kim Sang Sik's team finally opened the scoring in the 70th minute after Thanh Nhan scored.
"U23 Yemen had to rely on counter-attacks and were often caught out in the final third of the field, so they could not cause any trouble for goalkeeper Tran Trung Kien of U23 Vietnam.
Coach Kim Sang Sik made three changes, bringing Nguyen Dinh Bac, Nguyen Thanh Nhan and Le Van Thuan onto the field right before the first half whistle.

Yemen looked more adventurous in the second half when Hamzah Ahmed almost took advantage of a chance from a set piece midway through the half.
This missed opportunity cost U23 Yemen dearly when U23 Vietnam responded just 10 minutes later with Nguyen Thanh Nhan sprinting into the penalty area before scoring, sending his team to Saudi Arabia in 2026," AFC reported, pointing out the turning point that helped U23 Vietnam win a ticket to the 2026 AFC U23 Championship.
Just a few hours later, U23 Thailand also won a dramatic 2-1 victory over U23 Malaysia to become the second team in Southeast Asia after U23 Vietnam to qualify for the 2026 AFC U23 Championship. Meanwhile, U23 Malaysia, U23 Indonesia, U23 Cambodia and U23 Philippines all failed in their goal of qualifying for Saudi Arabia next year.
