According to India Times, at least 12 people were killed and 15 others injured when a passenger bus plunged into a nearly 15m deep ravine in the central Indian state of Chhattisgarh.
Police said the accident happened on the evening of April 9 local time in Durg district of Chhattisgarh state. At that time, there were about 40 people in the bus. The victims were all workers of a local liquor factory on their way home after work. The injured were taken to hospital. Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences to the families of the victims. In a post on X, PM Modi wrote: “The bus accident in Durg, Chhattisgarh is extremely sad. My condolences to those who have lost their loved ones in this incident. I wish the injured a speedy recovery. Under the supervision of the state government, the local administration is making every effort to help the victims in all possible ways.”
Also on X, President Droupadi Murmu shared: “The news of multiple fatalities in a bus accident in Durg district of Chhattisgarh is sad. My deepest condolences to all the bereaved families! I pray for a speedy recovery of the injured.”
