The Cu Chi Tunnels relic site is located on Provincial Road 15, Phu Hiep Hamlet, Phu My Hung Commune, Cu Chi District ( Ho Chi Minh City). The Cu Chi Tunnels were built during the resistance war against the French and reinforced during the resistance war against the Americans to save the country. The tunnel system is 3-12m deep, winding over 250km long, penetrating deep into the laterite clay soil, combined with about 500km of surrounding trenches.
In the basement there are places to store weapons, food, water wells, Hoang Cam kitchen, leaders' working cellar, surgical cellar, engineering workshop, can withstand the destructive power of many types of heavy bombs. The tunnel is very narrow, only allows one person to pass, must bend close to the ground to get through.
Cu Chi Tunnels is a miniature of the creative and varied battle formations of the army and people of Cu Chi during two long and fierce resistance wars that lasted for decades to gain independence, freedom and national unification.
Today, the Cu Chi tunnels relic is preserved in two areas: Ben Duoc (in Phu My Hung commune) and Ben Dinh (in Nhuan Duc commune).
In the Cu Chi tunnels, secret tunnels are constructed in many ways, but mainly underground, with only one opening just wide enough for a person's shoulder and a vent for breathing. When the tunnel's lid is closed, it is difficult for enemies on the ground to detect the tunnel. In the photo is a tunnel lid in the current Cu Chi tunnel system. |
