Decoding information about mint helps purify the liver in just a few days - Photo: THIP
This information comes from an August 23 Instagram post by @bablimangla. The writer claims that drinking mint or mint-based remedies can cleanse and restore the liver in just a few days.
However, The Healthy India Project (THIP) website affirms that this is false information, completely lacking in scientific basis.
The liver is responsible for processing, breaking down and eliminating toxins constantly. This mechanism does not need any special ingredients to function.
Dr. Sharad Malhotra, Head of Gastroenterology - Hepatology, Aakash Healthcare Hospital (New Delhi, India), emphasized: "There is no homemade drink that can miraculously detoxify the liver. The liver is always working to filter toxins, there is no need to add any special juice or mixture."
He believes that mint can enhance flavor and add nutrients to meals, but is not a "miracle drug" for the liver.
Medical sources confirm that there is no reputable human evidence that teas, juices, or herbs can remove toxins or improve liver function.
On the contrary, THIP warns that some products advertised as "detox" are harmful, due to the lack of control over functional foods and may be the cause of liver damage.
Several animal and laboratory studies have shown that peppermint extract has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compounds that help reduce liver damage.
However, this result has not been proven in humans, nor have any large clinical trials shown that peppermint tea improves liver function tests or treats liver disease.
"Herbal teas like mint add flavor and provide mild digestive support, but should not be considered a cure-all. A healthy liver is protected by long-term nutrition and lifestyle, not by any single food or beverage," emphasizes nutritionist Manasi Banduni (Clinic Living Plus, Bangalore).
Dr. Malhotra adds that liver health comes from a sustainable lifestyle: eating a balanced diet, drinking enough water, limiting alcohol and processed foods, managing stress, and staying active.
Therefore, experts recommend that instead of believing in quick "liver detox", people should maintain a healthy lifestyle and a scientific diet.
THIP emphasizes that liver health is much more complex and cannot be solved with a few quick "tricks". The online community needs to be careful and avoid being misled by false information.
