Place to keep national treasures

The museum is a place to preserve and display more than 40,000 artifacts of many types such as antiques, archaeological artifacts, resistance artifacts, ethnographic artifacts, reflecting the diverse historical and cultural picture, typical of Tay Ninh land, especially prehistoric culture and Oc Eo culture - a brilliant ancient culture that once flourished in the Mekong Delta.

The main exhibition hall of the Museum at facility 1 was built in French architecture from the early 20th century.

The most typical of the Museum's artifacts are two national treasures. First of all, we must mention the collection of Go Xoai gold artifacts with many unique shapes such as snakes, medals, rings, gold leaves engraved with Sanskrit inscriptions, gold pieces carved with elephants, lotus flowers, turtles, and human figures. In particular, the inscriptions are the only artifacts of this type found in Oc Eo cultural relics, contributing to determining the function of Go Xoai architecture as a Buddhist tower, built around the 8th - 9th century AD.

The second is the statue of god Visnu in Go Tram Quy, Hoa Khanh commune, a treasure currently kept at the Museum. The statue is carved from smooth, gray-blue sandstone, standing upright on a pedestal, with 4 arms, holding a wheel, a snail, a pearl, leaning on a stick, a square face, thick lips, flat features, long earlobes, a square tube hat, a bare, fat body, knee-length shorts, a square belt between the 2 legs, and a smooth pedestal.

According to Dr. Le Thi Lien - Vietnam Archaeological Association, the artifacts of the Vishnu statue in Go Tram Quy have a mixture and transition between the pre-Angkorian and Angkorian styles, signaling a new trend in costumes. This is the most intact Vishnu statue, with typical symbols, bearing the artistic characteristics of the Oc Eo culture in the development phase of idealism and sanctification (late 7th - 8th century), is evidence for the existence of Hindu temples on the lands on the edge of ancient alluvial terraces and high mounds.

The provincial museum is a place where many domestic and foreign organizations, research experts, tourists, students come to study, research, and exchange information and documents (In photo: A tour guide explains to visitors coming to learn at the provincial museum)

Director of the Provincial Museum Tran Thi Doan Quang said that with a relatively large number of artifacts, diverse in types and materials, the work of treatment and preventive preservation of the museum warehouse has always been focused on. Over the years, the Museum has consulted experts to maintain and stabilize the physical, chemical and biological condition of the artifacts to prolong their lifespan and prevent deterioration over time or impacts from the environment and humans.

The “hyphen” between present and past

Exhibition is one of the important tasks, contributing to the transmission of knowledge, education and promoting the value of artifacts. In recent years, in addition to the permanent exhibition content, the Museum has regularly organized thematic exhibitions in accordance with the functions and tasks of the provincial museum, mobile exhibitions or coordinated with other provinces to organize thematic exhibitions to bring heritage closer to the public, contributing to preserving and promoting the national cultural identity.

In addition, the Museum also has many international cooperation activities that have brought positive results, such as collaborating with the Center for Vietnam and Southeast Asian Studies (Japan), collaborating with the Australian National University (ANU) to excavate the An Son archaeological site; collaborating with the Institute of General and Comparative Archaeology - Federal Republic of Germany, collaborating with the Institute of Archaeology of Cultures outside Europe under the National Institute of Archaeology of the Federal Republic of Germany to excavate the Go O Chua archaeological site; collaborating with the Australian National University to excavate the Rach Nui archaeological site;...

These achievements are a great motivation for the Museum to continue to develop, constantly improve the quality of professional activities, and at the same time affirm its role and position in the work of preserving, educating and promoting the value of cultural heritage. The Provincial Museum is like a "bridge" between the present and the past, where every citizen and tourist can learn, feel and be proud of the heroic land, rich in historical and cultural traditions of the South./.
