Electronic medical records are the core foundation of the “paperless hospital” revolution.

In the context of digital transformation becoming the "lifeblood" of the healthcare industry, FPT is accompanying dozens of hospitals to successfully deploy electronic medical records, the core foundation of the "paperless" revolution in major hospitals in Vietnam, in line with the orientation of Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW.

On average, each hospital in Vietnam generates 50,000-80,000 paper records each year, resulting in printing, storage costs and loss risks. In 2018, the Ministry of Health issued Circular 46/2018/TT-BYT, requiring medical facilities to complete the implementation of electronic medical records (EMR) before December 31, 2030. In particular, Directive 07/CT-TTg of the Prime Minister has specified the goal that by September 30, 2025, 100% of hospitals nationwide must apply the electronic medical records system, moving towards a paperless hospital model.

In recent times,FPT has accompanied a series of hospitals nationwide to accelerate the implementation of electronic medical records, not only to meet the requirements of the tasks but also to transform management and operations, on the basis of digital technology. Within 6 months, FPT and 70 hospitals nationwide, including many leading hospitals, successfully implemented electronic medical records.

Based on the characteristics of each facility, the FPT team of experts built a flexible implementation roadmap, helping hospitals find solutions in converting paper medical records to electronic medical records. For example , Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Hospital, which treats 900,000 patients and performs about 40,000 surgeries each year, the stable operation of electronic medical records has contributed to shortening the process of processing records, reducing administrative procedures and improving service efficiency.

Similarly, Ho Chi Minh City Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital has also applied synchronized electronic medical records from the emergency room, clinic, operating room to patient rooms, helping to significantly shorten the time for processing records, increase operational efficiency and improve patient experience.

The implementation of electronic medical records not only brings clear efficiency in medical examination, treatment and serving people, but also plays the role of a data "backbone" for high-tech applications in the future, creating a foundation for standardization and data connection between hospitals, moving closer to the goal of a "paperless hospital".

FPT.EMR solution is developed based on a deep understanding of standards, regulations and medical practices. When operating stably, the system brings clear benefits: connecting data from administration, testing, imaging diagnosis to treatment; ending the situation of duplicate recording and reducing administrative procedures.

Thanks to the connection with the hospital management system (HIS), information is updated quickly and accurately, shortening the time to process documents and enhancing professionalism. Documents are digitally signed via FPT.eSign, data is stored on a secure cloud platform, operating 24/7, helping the hospital save costs and manage centrally.

For doctors, the solution allows access to the entire patient history, reduces repeated testing, supports accurate diagnosis and creates more time for expertise. For patients, the medical examination and treatment experience is more convenient: quick procedures, medical information integrated on VNeID, easy to look up test results, prescriptions, medical history; at the same time, receive timely reminders for follow-up visits, medication use or hospital transfers.

However, the reality shows that the conversion progress in many units is still slow. According to statistics, only more than 50% of hospitals nationwide have announced the implementation of electronic medical records. The reasons come from many different factors. Some medical facilities do not have enough human resources in information technology, while the medical team and doctors are already under high pressure in terms of expertise, so they need more time to adapt to the new working process. Technical infrastructure in many hospitals is still limited, causing difficulties in the synchronous deployment of software systems, servers and terminals.

In addition, the lack of implementation experience, lack of unified data standards, and the incompleteness in connecting and sharing data between health information systems are also significant barriers, making the digital transformation process of the health sector still challenging...

Therefore, with experience in implementing at many large facilities and available technological capacity, FPT hopes to support hospitals not only in digitizing business processes but also in improving service quality, towards the goal of comprehensive and sustainable healthcare.
