Deploying electronic medical records
Master, Specialist II Doctor Le Huy Thach - Director of Ninh Thuan General Hospital said: "The unit started the digital transformation roadmap in 2018. In the context of not having many previous models to refer to and limited resources, but realizing that digital technology will be the foundation of a modern healthcare system, the hospital determined that digital transformation is not simply software application, but a comprehensive change in management methods, expertise and service style. From there, we constantly strive to realize the vision of healthcare associated with the knowledge economy by covering the entire healthcare cycle, focusing on patients through the synchronous development of 4 target groups "4D", including: Drug (medicine), Device (medical equipment), Diagnostics (diagnosis) and Digital (digital). These are key pillars not only in the hospital's digital transformation journey, but also the core components of the knowledge economy, where knowledge - technology - people Convergence to create outstanding value for the hospital healthcare system".
During the digital transformation process, Ninh Thuan General Hospital has pioneered the successful implementation of electronic medical records (EMR) and closely cooperated with strategic partners, hospitals, research institutes, universities, and organizations such as: Koica (Korea), MESCH (Australia), Children Action (Switzerland), Apollo Hospitals (India), APPEL (France), Ministry of Health of Cuba, Japan.

In particular, with the efforts and consensus of the staff, employees, doctors and nurses, in 2021, Ninh Thuan General Hospital was recognized by the Ministry of Health as one of the first 21 units nationwide to officially replace paper medical records. This is an important milestone affirming the transformation from a traditional hospital model to a digital hospital. Medical data from here becomes an intellectual asset and technology becomes a driving force for innovation, bringing the hospital deeper into the knowledge-based economic ecosystem - where healthcare is not only a service, but also a foundation for scientific, industrial and human development.
Ms. Xuan Thi - a resident of Phan Rang ward shared: “In recent years, my family members and I often go to Ninh Thuan General Hospital for medical examination and treatment. Compared to before, now, medical examination and treatment here is more convenient and faster. People only need to bring their citizen ID or mobile phone with the VssID, VNeID application installed to register for examination. Medical services at the hospital can be paid by bank transfer, so it is also very convenient.”
Towards a smart healthcare ecosystem
It is known that, to achieve the above results, Ninh Thuan General Hospital has proactively built a synchronous information technology platform, ensuring stable and long-term operating conditions. Specifically, the hospital has deployed core systems including: Investing in information technology infrastructure, equipping specialized servers, firewalls, hospital management software, electronic medical records system, test management system and medical image storage and transmission system. All of these systems are integrated and connected to two-way data, allowing accurate and timely retrieval, updating and sharing of diagnostic results between specialized departments. In addition, promoting digitalization in the medical field, Ninh Thuan General Hospital also actively conducts online consultations via the Internet; organizes training on digital technology applications, as well as expertise for staff, doctors and nurses.
According to Dr. Le Huy Thach, digital transformation in healthcare does not stop at replacing paper records with electronic records. The ultimate goal of digital transformation is to create a smart, connected, patient-centered healthcare ecosystem. For Ninh Thuan General Hospital, the future goals of digital transformation are to improve the quality of diagnosis and treatment; personalized medicine; increase access to healthcare services, remote examination and treatment; more effective hospital management and international integration.
“Digital transformation has been helping hospitals improve the quality of medical examination and treatment; reduce pressure on medical staff; and ensure people enjoy better health care services. From the success in implementing electronic medical records, Ninh Thuan General Hospital is oriented to develop the Khanh Hoa digital health ecosystem. With the responsibility of being a provincial hospital, we are committed to continuing to play a pioneering role in digital transformation, improving professional capacity and international integration. We are ready to learn and share experiences, and accompany medical units inside and outside the province to build a health system that is true to the spirit and core nature of the knowledge economy. We propose that the province build a Public Health Innovation Fund, support piloting artificial intelligence (AI) models, treatment robots, big data management and promote international cooperation on smart health. From there, create a solid foundation for successfully building the Khanh Hoa digital health ecosystem, knowledge-based health in the South Central region today. "Great, effective, humane and for the people," Dr. Le Huy Thach shared.
