According to initial information, the individual was identified as a clouded monitor lizard (Varanus nebulosus), belonging to Group IB (strictly prohibited from exploitation and use for commercial purposes) in the list of endangered, rare and precious forest animals prioritized for protection. This individual has no identified gender, weighs 1.1 kg, and is about 50 cm long.

Mr. Y Kuong Teh said that at around 5:00 p.m. on October 9, 2025, his family suddenly discovered a live monitor lizard running into their yard in Cuor Tak village. Realizing the importance of protecting this wild animal, his family proactively sought to safely control it and quickly reported it to the local authorities for proper handling.
After receiving the animal, representatives of the Lak Regional Forest Protection Department coordinated with the Commune People's Committee, the Lien Son Lak Commune Police, and the Lak Regional Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Station to conduct a health check and prepare a handover record for the animal. At the time of receiving the animal, the monitor lizard was not injured, had good mobility, and was in good health.
The authorities quickly released this rare monitor lizard into the Lak Lake Historical, Cultural and Environmental Forest. This area is considered a suitable natural environment, helping the monitor lizard quickly integrate and live safely.
