The baby's mother, Ms. LT T (32 years old, Thanh Hoa ), has a history of miscarriages and premature births and has been hospitalized many times. This is the 7th pregnancy. During pregnancy, the patient suffered from severe preeclampsia, fetal malnutrition in the uterus, and oligohydramnios.

It is known that the pregnant woman was prescribed amniotic fluid transfusion to save the fetus from the 21st week. When the fetus was 26 weeks old, the pregnant woman had a history of severe preeclampsia, facing the risk of fetal heart failure. The pregnant woman's family wished to terminate the pregnancy to save the mother.

After consultation, doctors at Hanoi Obstetrics Hospital decided to let the mother give birth naturally. The baby girl weighed 400g, was weak, pale and had weak reflexes. Doctors explained to the family to prepare mentally because the baby might not survive.

The baby girl was born weighing 400g, weak, cyanotic and had weak reflexes.

However, with the close coordination of the Obstetrics and Pediatrics Departments, after 20 minutes of intensive resuscitation, the baby's skin became pinker, her limbs had reflexes and her eyes opened. The baby girl was then transferred to the Neonatal Department to be placed in an incubator and given CPAP and then switched to oxygen.

According to doctors at Hanoi Obstetrics Hospital, premature and low birth weight babies (under 1,000g) have many potential neonatal risks such as asphyxia, respiratory failure, cerebral and pulmonary hemorrhage, intestinal necrosis, infection, metabolic disorders, hemolytic jaundice... Especially for premature babies born at 26 weeks old and weighing only 400g, care and treatment are very difficult.

With the hope that there is still life, doctors at Hanoi Obstetrics Hospital applied many synchronous measures at the same time, such as incubator, CPAP, oxygen, complete intravenous nutrition, antibiotics, vasopressors... through umbilical vein catheter, while continuously monitoring vital signs... Fortunately, the baby girl responded to the medication and developed well.

After 3 regular blood transfusions and intensive care from doctors, the premature baby girl's health has improved. After 4 months of treatment, she has gained 2.1 kg and can breastfeed on her own.

According to doctors, for a 400g newborn baby to grow to 2.1kg after 4 months is not easy. It not only requires modern equipment and special protocols, but more importantly, the dedication and skill of doctors and nurses.

It is known that this is the lowest birth weight premature baby to be successfully cared for and treated by Hanoi Obstetrics Hospital.
