Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the fastest growing field of technology today. With each passing day, AI tools are doing new things and even doing things that are beyond human capabilities.

According to a study conducted by Duke University, North Carolina, and the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta and Richmond, USA, up to 61% of large companies in the US plan to use artificial intelligence in the next year to automate jobs previously done by humans.

So which jobs are most likely to be replaced by AI?

In a recent online interview, Geoffrey Hinton - known as the "Godfather of AI" - said that telemarketers, low-level legal and financial analysts, online customer service staff... will be the jobs that will be replaced by AI within the next 24 months.

“If I do those things, I start to get anxious,” Geoffrey Hinton shares.

Geoffrey Hinton added that humans are facing fierce competition from AI for jobs right now, no longer having to wait for the future, as evidenced by the thousands of employees who have been laid off from large technology corporations due to jobs being replaced by AI, and new graduates are also having more difficulty finding jobs.

Nowadays, many businesses are also applying AI Agents, artificial intelligence tools designed to perform tasks and processes on software systems automatically; or make decisions on behalf of users, based on provided instructions or goals. This makes businesses lay off more employees to cut operating costs.

In fact, AI has been and is impacting many areas of life, including the ability to compete for jobs with humans. This forces businesses and policymakers to be ready to have policies that are more suitable for the transformation of business operating models in the future.

Meanwhile, workers also need to take steps to prepare so as not to be surprised by the capabilities of artificial intelligence, to adapt and get used to mastering artificial intelligence when applied to their field of work.

Who is “AI Godfather” Geoffrey Hinton?

Professor Geoffrey Everest Hinton was born on December 6, 1947 in London, England. He is a computer scientist , cognitive psychologist, known as the "Godfather of AI" for his pioneering contributions in the fields of artificial intelligence (AI) and deep learning.

In 2024, Professor Hinton won the Nobel Prize in Physics for his fundamental discoveries in machine learning with artificial neural networks.

Also in 2024, Professor Geoffrey Hinton, Professor Yoshua Bengio, Professor Yann LeCun, Professor Fei-Fei Li and CEO of chip company Nvidia Jensen Huang were honored and received the main award at the VinFuture 2024 award ceremony, for their great contributions in the field of deep learning and artificial intelligence.

Geoffrey Hinton, along with Yoshua Bengio and Yann LeCun, are considered the “godfathers of AI” for their research that laid the foundation for many important advances in the development of modern artificial intelligence.
