Toyota is preparing a new way of producing next-generation electric vehicles (expected to hit the market in 2026).

Eliminate conveyor belt systems in electric vehicle production

Accordingly, the production line will not use a conveyor system for cars being built. Instead, these cars will drive themselves through the production process. Part of this new plan has been applied at Toyota's Motomachi Plant in Aichi Prefecture, Japan (pictured).

According to Toyota representatives, by combining sensor recognition technology and self-driving technology, partially completed cars will move slowly inside the factory, as if they were being transported by a conveyor system.

By optimizing its manufacturing processes, Toyota aims to cut its current investment costs in factories in half. The Japanese automaker also aims to commercialize solid-state batteries as early as 2027. Toyota hopes solid-state batteries will help shorten charging times and increase vehicle range.
