On January 29, Dr. Truong Thanh Tuyen, Deputy Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Tay Ninh Xuyen A General Hospital, said that after clinical examination and necessary paraclinical tests, the patient was diagnosed with a large subperitoneal uterine fibroid causing urinary retention and urinary tract infection. Initially, the patient was hospitalized for treatment of urinary retention and urinary tract infection at the Department of Urology. At the same time, the patient received a specialist consultation, performed tests, and had an in-depth pelvic MRI.
With the paraclinical results, the doctors held a consultation to evaluate. With the current medical condition and the patient having undergone 2 normal births, the doctors agreed to perform a partial hysterectomy - tumor removal surgery to completely treat the patient.
In the operating room, the team removed the tumor, removed adhesions from the colon and small intestine, and removed adhesions at the ureter and bladder. Then, they combined to remove and completely remove the large extraperitoneal tumor measuring 20x30 cm, and finally performed a partial hysterectomy. After about 3 hours, the surgery was successful. After surgery, the patient was able to urinate normally.

Currently, the patient's health is completely stable and he was discharged from the hospital after 7 days post-surgery.
Doctor Truong Thanh Tuyen said that uterine fibroids are benign tumors commonly found in women of childbearing age. Small uterine fibroids often have no obvious symptoms, however, large uterine fibroids, if not treated promptly, can compress surrounding organs, affecting the quality of life, health, and even the lives of women.
Subperitoneal uterine fibroids are a form of uterine fibroids, endometriosis, ovarian tumors, etc. If not detected and treated appropriately for each type of tumor, women may experience many health problems, affecting their quality of life.
"Women need to have regular gynecological examinations to screen for diseases. In cases of uterine fibroids, even if there are no symptoms, they still need to go for examination so that specialists can promptly assess the size and number of tumors... from which to have a timely treatment plan, avoiding the tumor from developing and causing dangerous complications," Dr. Tuyen recommended.
