Hoang Sao lost to the world's number 2 player
In the Last 16 round, the remaining hope of Vietnamese billiards, Hoang Sao, entered a tense confrontation with Aloysius Yapp, the number one Singaporean player who is in very good form in 2025 with many major titles.
In the first set, Hoang Sao started confidently. He played solidly, taking advantage of his opponent's errors to win 1-0. In the second set, the turning point happened when the Vietnamese player missed the 10 ball in the opening game. Yapp did not miss the opportunity, continuously scoring points to win 4-3, equalizing the score.
In set 3, Yapp took an early 3-0 lead and it seemed like it would end quickly. However, Hoang Sao showed his mettle and tied the match at 3-3. However, a mistake in the deciding game caused him to lose 3-4, thereby being led 2-1 by his opponent.
Not willing to stop, Hoang Sao rose strongly in set 4. He only lost 1 game and won 4-1, bringing the match to the deciding set 5. In the final set, the two players fought for each point, tied 3-3 and had to decide the winner by penalty shootout. Here, Quoc Hoang missed one shot, while Yapp was excellent in all 4 shots. In the end, the Singaporean player won 3-2, earning a ticket to the quarterfinals to meet Shane Van Boening (USA).
Hoang Sao had a tense match and regrettably left the tournament.

Exciting quarter-finals, 4 excellent players revealed
The quarter-finals were also held right after the Last 16. In the Philippine Civil War, defending champion Carlo Biado showed his class by defeating compatriot Mark Estiola 3-0, thereby securing the first ticket to the semi-finals. The match was played quickly as Biado controlled the game well, taking full advantage of his opponent's mistakes.
One of the notable confrontations was between Oliver Szolnoki (Hungary) and Ko Ping Chung (Taiwan). Ko Ping Chung, the leading candidate for the championship, affirmed his stable form to win 3-2 after 5 tense sets. Szolnoki had a moment to equalize and put a lot of pressure, but it was not enough to stop the player from Taiwan.
In another highly anticipated match, Shane Van Boening (USA), a pool legend with many major titles, defeated Aloysius Yapp (Singapore) 3-1. Yapp had just eliminated Duong Quoc Hoang in the Last 16 round, but with Van Boening's vast experience, Singapore's number one player could not create any more surprises.
The remaining quarter-final match saw an exciting score chase between Marco Teutscher (Netherlands) and Alex Kazakis (Greece). After 5 sets of tension, Kazakis successfully came back to win 3-2, becoming the only European representative to make it to the semi-finals.
Thus, the four players participating in the semi-finals of the 2025 Men's 10-Ball World Championship are Carlo Biado (Philippines), Ko Ping Chung (Taiwan), Shane Van Boening (USA) and Alex Kazakis (Greece). The two semi-finals will take place on September 27, with Carlo Biado facing Ko Ping Chung at 11am. Then, at 4pm, there will be the remaining semi-final between Shane Van Boening and Alex Kazakis.
