BTS, BlackPink on Rolling Stone's list of '250 greatest songs of the 21st century'

The prestigious music magazine Rolling Stone (USA) has just announced the list of '250 greatest songs of the 21st century so far', including 4 K-pop songs by BTS, BlackPink, SNSD and NewJeans.

On October 9, Rolling Stone music magazine officially revealed its list of the "250 Greatest Songs of the 21st Century So Far". Notably, there were 4 K-pop songs on this chart.

Leading the way is BTS with their hit Spring Day ranked 37th, the highest of all Korean songs nominated.

In the review, Rolling Stone wrote: " Spring Day is one of the signature songs of BTS - the greatest pop group of the 21st century.

The song conveys feelings of recovery and hope blossoming from loss, giving it a timeless sound. It is also a testament to the deep connection in their music."

Released in February 2017, Spring Day is the title track of the repackaged album You Never Walk Alone - the group's second full album.

The song has made a record by becoming the first song in the history of the Melon music platform to surpass 1 billion streams. Not stopping there, Spring Day also holds the record for the longest time on Melon's daily chart, with a chart stay lasting nearly 8 years.

The song also helped BTS's album enter the US Billboard 200 chart, ranking 61 on March 4, 2017, and staying there for two consecutive weeks.

Spring Day is a bold alternative hip hop track that combines British rock with modern electronic sounds.

SNSD is the only Gen 2 group to be honored in the top 250. The national song Gee ranked 170th on the list. Rolling Stone called it a sweet pop song with a lively melody, contributing to making SNSD become a group loved by the whole of Korea since their debut in 2007.

Despite being inactive for nearly a year due to a contract dispute with management company ADOR, NewJeans still proves the group's appeal when appearing on the list with Hype boy , ranked at number 206.

Rolling Stone praised this as a youthful, addictive song: "An addictive song that once made TikTok 'explode', celebrating modern youth culture.

The lyrics, which are authentic and co-written by member Hanni (17 years old at the time), contribute to the song's intimate and emotional content."

Rolling Stone magazine said the selection criteria were not only based on popularity but also considered cultural influence, innovation and artistic value. The list was built to honor songs that have helped shape the world music scene over the past two decades.
