Nguyen Tien Son's family is one of the typical households in the economic development movement in Coc Lau commune.

The family of Mr. Nguyen Tien Son, one of the typical households in the local economic development movement. To stabilize their lives after the storm and flood, they started to develop a comprehensive economic model: growing cinnamon, raising chickens and pigs. Nearly 3 hectares of cinnamon that Mr. Son planted in addition to the old roots have now begun to yield harvest. Not only does he peel cinnamon bark from his hill, he also buys cinnamon from households in the area to peel and sell to traders.

Mr. Nguyen Tien Son shared: Previously, the family mainly raised pigs, but due to frequent epidemics, they switched to raising chickens, and households with ponds used the land to raise fish. Currently, my family has about 2/3 of a hectare of cinnamon that has begun to yield harvest. During the season, my husband and I also buy cinnamon hills from households around the area to peel and sell fresh to traders, earning from 50 to 70 million VND per crop.

Mr. Son's family raises more chickens to serve the Tet market.

Currently, Mr. Son is raising 600 chip chickens - a famous breed of chicken from Bac Giang to serve the Tet market. Every day, care and disease prevention are strictly implemented. If the market is favorable, this flock of chickens can bring in about 50 million VND in revenue. This is truly a valuable number for people in the highlands after natural disasters.

In addition to purchasing cinnamon bark for export, Ms. Mai's family also makes cinnamon incense and cinnamon buds.

In addition to the organic cinnamon growing model combined with purchasing and processing cinnamon bark for export, bringing in a revenue of more than 100 million VND per year, cinnamon processed products such as cinnamon incense and cinnamon buds also help Ms. Mai's family increase their income, gradually getting rich.

Ms. Ly Thi Mai shared: At the end of 2024, after the storm and flood, selling fresh or dried cinnamon bark was difficult. One time, my family accidentally learned about the technique of making cinnamon incense and cinnamon buds on social networks, so we decided to try it. At first, we produced it manually, so it took a lot of effort and time. Therefore, since the beginning of this year, we have invested in buying more supporting machines. The products are both beautiful and more productive, so many people trust and buy them.

With modern machines, processing cinnamon products is simpler and takes less time.

Thanks to the application of modern machinery systems, steps such as grinding cinnamon powder, splitting bamboo or pressing buds are carried out more quickly and conveniently. With the motto of "producing clean, safe products for consumers", Ms. Mai's family's cinnamon incense and cinnamon buds do not use preservatives, only natural flavors. In particular, all products are sold out immediately through online sales channels - a modern and effective form of business.

Not only that, near Tet when the demand for orders increases, Ms. Mai's family also has to hire 5-7 more workers to support processing cinnamon products, packaging and delivering to customers in time.

After the merger, Coc Lau commune has a cinnamon area of nearly 4,300 hectares, of which 1,800 hectares are certified organic cinnamon. Cinnamon is the main source of income for over 600 households in the commune, contributing significantly to the poverty reduction and new rural construction in the locality. Large, beautiful houses are gradually appearing more and more in this difficult land.

Mr. Trieu Ta Chieu - Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Coc Lau commune said: We will continue to mobilize and effectively use capital from the National Target Programs to support people in sustainable economic development, through many specific models, focusing on developing cinnamon growing areas; providing technical guidance, supporting seed sources and organic fertilizers to help people develop organic cinnamon growing areas. At the same time, encourage businesses and households to participate in the production of cinnamon products locally.

With the attention and facilitation of local authorities and the unceasing efforts of the highland people here, Coc Lau today has not only revived, but is also gradually growing strongly, improving the quality of life and moving towards building a new model rural area.
