The road to Dr. Yersin's tomb has long been a dirt road, low lying, it is necessary to build a road soon to contribute to making the resting place of the scientist more spacious.

Dirt road to famous people's tombs

The tomb of scientist - doctor A. Yersin (in Suoi Cat commune, Cam Lam district, Khanh Hoa) is located about 1km west of National Highway 1, and about 400m south of Provincial Road 3.

It is worth mentioning that the road connecting National Highway 1 to the cemetery, about 1km long, is still a dirt road, some sections are paved with crushed stone to prevent slipping when it rains.

The widest section is about 5m, the narrower section is about 3m. The road has many potholes, troughs and large rocks. On both sides of the road, vines and weeds grow wildly...

Every year, the resting place of the scientist is visited by many people to offer incense and lay flowers in memory of the honorary citizen of Vietnam who devoted his entire life to bringing good things to humanity and Khanh Hoa province.

The road to Dr. A. Yersin's tomb is still a small, narrow dirt road.

Coming from Ho Chi Minh City, Ms. Hoang Thi Huong expressed that she greatly admired Dr. Yersin, so every time he celebrated his birthday or death anniversary, she went to his grave to offer flowers and incense.

"I see that the dirt road to the cemetery has not been paved, so it gets muddy during the rainy season. On days when there are many visitors, the small road cannot be accessed by passenger cars, so they have to park far away so that visitors can walk in, which is very difficult," said Ms. Huong.

Build a 2-lane asphalt road

It is known that the project of Road to Doctor A. Yersin's tomb was approved for investment by Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee in 2016.

However, this project had to change its design to match the Nha Trang - Cam Lam expressway access road project (provincial road 3 connection route), so the project was delayed for many years.

Up to now, this highway has been put into operation and the access road has been completed, so the project is being urgently implemented by Khanh Hoa province.

Some boulders lie on the road, posing a potential danger to visitors.

Accordingly, after adjusting the design of the project connecting to Provincial Road 3, the length is shortened to 310m (old route 800m). The starting point at the roundabout Km 1+650 of Provincial Road 3 of the Nha Trang - Cam Lam Expressway Project has been approved by the Department of Transport (formerly).

The new route to the tomb of Dr. A. Yersin combines a parking lot for people visiting the relic. The road has a 12m wide base, a 7m wide asphalt surface, two lanes, and grass and trees on both sides of the road, each side 2.5m wide.

The total investment capital of the project is nearly 9 billion VND. The project has also been consulted with departments, branches, sectors, and localities on planning, project scale, total investment...

Mr. Nguyen Van Nhuan, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Khanh Hoa province, said: "The construction and completion of the new road to the tomb of Dr. A. Yersin will create favorable conditions for people and tourists to visit. At the same time, it shows gratitude to the scientist who has made many contributions to the land of Khanh Hoa."

Many dirt roads have deteriorated.

Recently, after a field survey, Vice Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee Dinh Van Thieu emphasized: "This project is suitable for the actual needs of the people and visitors, and also meets the wishes of those who admire Dr. A. Yersin.

At the same time, it contributes to preserving and promoting the value of the tomb (1 of the 4 locations constituting the national monument commemorating scientist A.Yersin).

Therefore, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the province focuses on completing the dossier and submitting it to the Provincial People's Committee for approval of project investment no later than the end of April 2025.
