The longest bridge on the North-South Expressway before opening day

(Dan Tri) - The Hung Duc Bridge, over 4km long, connecting the two banks of the Lam River, is nearing completion. After opening to traffic at the end of June, this will be the longest bridge on the North-South Expressway.

In mid-June, the Hung Duc bridge project, part of the North-South expressway project in the East phase 2017-2020, the Dien Chau (Nghe An) - Bai Vot ( Ha Tinh ) section, was nearly completed.

According to the design, Hung Duc Bridge is nearly 4.1km long, with a total investment value of more than 1,200 billion VND. The project will start construction in 2022 and will be undertaken by a consortium of contractors Dai Hiep Company Limited, Thai Yen Investment and Construction Joint Stock Company, Hoa Hiep Company Limited and CIENCO4 Group Joint Stock Company.

Not only crossing the Lam River, Hung Duc Bridge also passes through alluvial plains, La River, La Giang dike, residential areas, and rice fields. Talking to Dan Tri reporter, Mr. Nguyen Quoc Viet, General Director of Phuc Thanh Hung Investment Joint Stock Company (a business established by the investor to implement the project), said that up to now, Hung Duc Bridge is the longest road bridge on the entire North-South expressway. According to Mr. Viet, when the route is open, Dien Chau - Bai Vot Expressway in general and Hung Duc Bridge in particular will help gradually form the eastern North-South expressway with large capacity, safety, high speed, meeting transportation needs, in line with the orientation and planning of transportation development. The project also helps connect the economic and political centers of Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces in particular and the North Central region in general.

According to the plan, the remaining 19km of the Dien Chau - Bai Vot expressway (from Hung Nguyen, Nghe An to Duc Tho, Ha Tinh) will be open to traffic on June 30. These days, the group of workers are busy completing the final tasks such as installing nets on the median strip on Hung Duc bridge.

Worker Long (residing in Duc Tho district, Ha Tinh) has been working on the Hung Duc bridge construction site since the very first days. "I am very happy that after 2 years, the bridge is almost finished, ensuring the set progress. The North-South Expressway will help the whole country in general and Ha Tinh in particular develop further," Mr. Long shared.

At many other construction sites, workers and engineers are rushing to complete the installation of railings, signs, equipment and bridge expansion joints.

Hung Duc Bridge has 90 spans, 17.5m wide with 4 lanes, design speed 80km/h.

When Hung Duc Bridge and Dien Chau - Bai Vot Expressway are open to traffic, vehicles can travel from the north to the National Highway 8 intersection in Duc Tho District (Ha Tinh) and vice versa.

Once completed, Hung Duc Bridge connecting the two banks of Lam River (Hung Nguyen District, Nghe An with Duc Tho District, Ha Tinh) will be the longest bridge on the North-South Expressway.

The Dien Chau - Bai Vot Expressway Project has a total investment of 13,338 billion VND, passing through the districts of Dien Chau, Nghi Loc, Hung Nguyen of Nghe An province (44.4km) and Duc Tho district of Ha Tinh province (4.9km). At the end of April, the project basically completed the main route and opened to traffic from Dien Chau to the intersection of National Highway 46B, Hung Tay commune, Hung Nguyen district with a length of about 30km. The remaining 19km from the intersection of National Highway 46B - Bai Vot will open to traffic later (June 30) due to the prolonged treatment of weak soil and the waiting time for subsidence.
