The owner of the century-old durian tree, Mr. Le Van Thanh, in Tan Lap village, Ea Yong commune, Krong Pac district, said that his family's ancient durian tree is a traditional durian variety (seed durian), with delicious, distinctive flesh. Each year, this ancient durian tree produces an average of about 100 fruits, with a peak year yielding tons of fruit.

"Many people have come to ask to buy it and let me set my own price. However, I have no intention of selling it. Because the ancient durian tree has been associated with my childhood and many generations in my family. My family decided to keep it as a souvenir," said Mr. Thanh.

In addition to owning a hundred-year-old durian tree, Mr. Thanh’s family also has a garden of Dona durian grown according to VietGAP standards. With an area of ​​1.3 hectares, this year Mr. Thanh’s family expects to harvest over 45 tons of fruit.

Mr. Mai Dinh Tho, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Clean Agriculture Cooperative of Krong Pac district, said that this durian tree was planted in 1922, planted by the French after they established the Company. Agriculture Asia (commonly known as CADA). By this time, the durian tree was more than a hundred years old.

Over the years, this ancient durian tree has attracted many visitors, especially during the second Krong Pac Durian Festival in 2024.

Dak Lak is a province with great potential and advantages for developing durian trees. The province's durian area in 2024 is about 35,000 hectares, an increase of more than 12,000 hectares compared to 2022, with an estimated output of over 350,000 tons.

A hundred-year-old durian tree in Tan Lap village, Ea Yong commune, Krong Pac district, Dak Lak province, one fruit was auctioned at 350 million VND, within the framework of the Krong Pac durian festival.

To promote the image and increase the value of durian, the People's Committee of Krong Pac district organized the second Krong Pac durian festival. One of the 12 main activities of the second Krong Pac durian festival in 2024 is the experience of enjoying durian in the garden and visiting the ancient durian tree that is over 100 years old in Krong Pac district, Dak Lak province.

On the afternoon of September 1, the People's Committee of Krong Pac district organized an auction of 3 durians and collected 2.55 billion VND. Of which, 1 fruit from a hundred-year-old durian tree was the first to be auctioned, taken from an ancient tree over 100 years old, with a starting price of 60 million VND. After many auctions, a business finally won the auction of the above durian with a price of 350 million VND.

A durian fanatic, Ms. Nguyen Thanh Thao (in Ward 9, District 5, Ho Chi Minh City) shared that she and her family traveled nearly 400km to Krong Pac district to participate in the 2nd Krong Pac durian festival and especially to admire and enjoy the special flavor of this hundred-year-old durian tree.

"In addition to admiring the hundred-year-old durian tree, my family and I also got to enjoy its special flavor. It was absolutely wonderful, and this was the best durian segment I have ever tasted," Ms. Thao happily said.
