At about 1 a.m., fire from a corner of a kiosk quickly spread to the entire Vina market with a corrugated iron roof on Lac Long Quan street, Khai Quang ward, Vinh Yen city.

Mr. Toan said that his house is about 500 meters from the market. He was sleeping when he heard shouts of "Vina market fire". When he arrived, the fire had already engulfed a corner of the market. "At that time, the wind was very strong so the fire spread quickly. In just a few minutes, the whole market was covered in a bright red color. The smell of burning was so thick in the air that people who came to watch could not stand close because of the heat," he said.

Many merchants ran into the market to save their belongings, but the fire was so strong that they could not save many. More than 10 cars parked on the sidewalk were also burned.

The Vinh Phuc Province Fire Prevention and Rescue Police mobilized many vehicles and soldiers to the scene to put out the fire. By 5am, the fire was under control, however, there were still many smoldering areas inside the market, and the police were approaching to completely extinguish it.

Vina Market sells many items such as household appliances, electronics, especially clothes to serve people in Khai Quang ward and workers in Khai Quang industrial park. The market is part of the project to build "Khai Quang ward market infrastructure" with an area of 7,000 m2, deployed in 2016, but is not yet completed. Small traders and people set up a temporary market to trade while waiting for construction.
