Details of Toyota Frontlander 2026 launched in China, from 494 million VND

The Toyota Corolla Cross was designed to suit many markets around the world . However, in the billion-people Chinese market, this B-size SUV faces a unique challenge, which is the regulation requiring foreign automakers to sell domestically produced versions through separate joint ventures - that's why the Toyota Frontlander 2026 was born.

The Toyota Frontlander SUV serves as the GAC Toyota joint venture version of the Corolla Cross. Unlike the Frontlander, the Corolla Cross is produced by the FAW Toyota joint venture for the Chinese market.

In terms of design, the upgraded Toyota Frontlander 2026 has overall dimensions of length x width x height of 4,490 x 1,825 x 1,625 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,640 mm. Compared to its predecessor, the car is 5 mm longer. The traditional grille is removed, replaced by a modern monolithic front bumper. The Toyota logo is moved to the hood, giving it a new look compared to the international Corolla Cross version.

The car's LED headlights retain the design of the high-end version of the Corolla Cross, while the lower versions still use traditional lights. The taillight graphics on the high-end version have also been refined for a sharper look. Toyota also added the exterior paint color Titanium Star Grey, a gray color that is popular in China, to increase its appeal to young customers.

The interior is the area with the most changes on the new Frontlander. The center console has been redesigned, giving a more premium feel thanks to its minimalist style, eliminating most of the physical buttons. The car is equipped with a 12.9-inch touch screen entertainment screen, significantly larger than the 9-10 inch screen of the Corolla Cross in Vietnam.

The car's air-conditioning vents are made thinner, and 64-color interior ambient lighting is also added. The 8.8-inch digital clock cluster is retained, smaller than the 12.3-inch type on the Corolla Cross sold in Vietnam. In addition, the center console is made more polished, integrating a wireless charging pad.

The seats of the Toyota Frontlander 2026 are newly designed, covered with premium leather with two color options: Starry Black and Ivory White. The front seats have multi-directional electric adjustment and lumbar support.

Despite having a front-end design quite similar to the electric car line, Toyota Frontlander 2026 continues to offer two familiar engine options: gasoline and hybrid. The standard version is equipped with a 2.0L 4-cylinder gasoline engine, providing 169 horsepower, with front-wheel drive and a CVT gearbox.

The hybrid version has a 2.0L gasoline engine (156 horsepower) combined with an electric motor (111 horsepower) and a lithium-ion battery, an E-CVT gearbox and front-wheel drive. In China, the upgraded Toyota Frontlander is priced from 18,700 USD to 21,900 USD (about 494 - 578 million VND) for the gasoline version.

The 2026 Toyota Frontlander version has a selling price from 20,500 USD to 23,300 USD (about 541 - 615 million VND). This price is significantly higher than the previous version, which was sold at a discounted price of only about 12,500 USD (more than 300 million VND) in the billion-people Chinese market.
