Can Tho College of Tourism has just organized a meeting to introduce the book “Don ca tai tu” in the tourism space by researcher and composer Nham Hung. The program took place in a warm and friendly atmosphere, attracting the participation of leaders, lecturers and a large number of students.
During the exchange, Researcher - Composer Nham Hung and Meritorious Artist Kieu Nga - Deputy Director of the Center for Culture and Arts of Can Tho City shared a lot of vivid information to help students better understand the cultural and artistic value of Southern amateur music, as well as the potential to exploit this genre in modern tourism development.

Launching the book 'Don ca tai tu in the tourist space' by researcher Nham Hung
Mr. Nham Hung analyzed the difference between Don ca tai tu and Cai luong – two genres that are often confused. According to him, Don ca tai tu was born in the late 19th century, a crystallization of Hue royal court music and Southern folk songs, carrying an elegant and spontaneous spirit. Meanwhile, Cai luong is a staged development of amateurs, with specific scripts and characters.
Meritorious Artist Kieu Nga introduced the technique of “listening to the music and singing” – the core of amateur art, in which the way of taking “breath” determines the emotion of the song. She also illustrated with a few short excerpts, helping students clearly feel the subtlety in each rhythm and breath.

Researcher Nham Hung introduces the system of 20 original pieces and small pieces - the foundation for creativity in amateur performances. Meritorious Artist Kieu Nga illustrates four basic modes: Nam, Bac, Oan, Bac Le, helping students recognize the happy, sad, solemn, and profound nuances of each tune.
Sharing about the book “Don ca tai tu” in the tourism space , Mr. Nham Hung said that this is the result of many years of research and practical experience at tourist destinations in the Southwest region. The book suggests a new approach – bringing traditional music into tourism activities in a natural and attractive way.
He introduced a number of application models such as the "listening to music - enjoying tea" experience tour at garden homestays, building a space for amateur performances in eco-tourism areas, or amateur performances on walking streets and night markets to serve tourists.

Meritorious Artist Kieu Nga also analyzed the relationship between Don ca tai tu and Vong co – two genres with the same origin but developed in different directions. If Vong co tends to be more expressive on stage, then Tai tu still maintains its rustic, delicate and spontaneous features, “listening like letting your soul drift with the rivers of the West”, she said.
The exchange between the speakers and students was lively with many questions about the development of tourism associated with traditional culture. The illustrative performances, the lyrics and the sounds of the traditional musical instruments were presented right in the hall, bringing deep emotions, helping students love and be proud of their homeland's heritage.
Ms. Nguyen Minh Tho - Principal of Can Tho College of Tourism expressed her joy when this activity helped tourism students understand more deeply the value of traditional culture, especially Don ca tai tu - a representative intangible cultural heritage of humanity.

“The school always encourages students not only to study their major but also to understand regional culture – an important foundation for creative and sustainable tourism. Today’s exchange is a vivid lesson, helping students clearly feel the generous and affectionate spirit of the Southern people through each song and melody,” the Principal emphasized.
