On the afternoon of October 3, the exhibition "Do Son's paintings" opened at the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum (66 Nguyen Thai Hoc, Ba Dinh, Hanoi ).

As a name with many important contributions to the innovation and development of Vietnamese fine arts since the 1980s, especially during the Renovation period of the country in general, and of fine arts creation in particular, painter Do Son is mentioned in the country's fine arts scene with his own style and creative perspective.
The exhibition “Do Son’s Paintings” introduces 92 paintings, including many impressive sketches, with a variety of materials. These works were selected from the artist’s family archives, especially some paintings painted recently, when the artist was old.

Since his 4th solo exhibition in 2008 at Thang Long Gallery (Hanoi), 17 years later, at the age of over 80, painter Do Son has returned for his 5th solo exhibition. At the exhibition, the public who loves art in general, and Do Son's paintings in particular, have the opportunity to admire and explore the overall color palette and the major themes in his creative career. Covering all is a sensitive soul, with a love of life that the artist has conveyed in each of his strokes.

Sharing at the exhibition, artist Do Son said that recently he has been painting, with free themes. For him, painting is a passion and practice. The artist shared that through this exhibition, he wants to honor the beauty of life, women, and the landscapes of the regions he has traveled through. The works are mainly in oil paint. These are works he painted sporadically over a long period of time, abundantly depicting the beauty of women.
Regarding “Do Son’s Paintings”, researcher Vu Huy Thong said that the exhibition is one of the artistic milestones in the creative career of painter Do Son. Sketches, landscapes, nudes… at the exhibition are excellent works selected from the artist’s artistic heritage.
According to researcher Vu Huy Thong, painter Do Son belongs to the pre-renovation generation of painters with very important contributions to art and innovative painting. His award-winning works are all works with new language, encouraging the innovative painting art, which has flourished until today. Many of his works are painted with strong expressive language, especially his nude paintings - a theme that has been his constant theme for many years.
The exhibition runs until October 9.
Painter Do Son was born in 1943. After graduating from the Intermediate level, school year 1961-1964, Vietnam College of Fine Arts (now Vietnam University of Fine Arts), he joined the army, participated in work and fought in the battlefield of Zone V. In 1971, he was injured and had to be transferred to the North for treatment, then returned to work at the People's Army Newspaper.
With a passion and desire to create paintings, he determined to take the entrance exam to the 5-year program - Vietnam College of Fine Arts, school year 1973-1978, at the age of 30. After graduating, he returned to work at the Military Fine Arts Workshop, Vietnam Military History Museum, until his retirement.
Painter Do Son has 8 works in the collection of the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum. His paintings have also been collected by many organizations and individuals in 26 countries and territories. These include the Singapore Art Museum, the collection of the Royal Family of Morocco, the art collection of Mobil Company (USA)...
As an artist deeply attached to the themes of war and the military, Do Son's paintings of women and daily life are also a subject area that he expresses with great appeal.
