The Government requested to urgently deploy election preparation work.

On September 18, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh signed Directive No. 28/CT-TTg on organizing the election of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term.

Accordingly, the election day of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term will be held on Sunday, March 15, 2026.

In order for the election of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and People's Councils to be equal, legal, safe, economical and truly a festival for all people; to create the most favorable conditions for the people to fully exercise their right to mastery in selecting, introducing and electing people with virtue and talent, worthy of representing the people of the whole country at the National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels, the Prime Minister instructed the Ministry of Home Affairs to be the standing agency, responsible to the Government and the Prime Minister in advising and assisting the Government and the Prime Minister in directing ministries, ministerial-level agencies, agencies under the Government, and People's Committees at all levels to carry out election work in accordance with the provisions of law and the assignment of the National Election Council.

The Ministry of Ethnic Minorities and Religions is responsible for determining commune administrative units in mountainous areas, and the Ministry of Home Affairs is responsible for determining commune administrative units in islands to serve as the basis for determining the number of elected commune People's Council delegates in the 2026-2031 term.

The Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Construction, and the Ministry of Science and Technology shall develop specific plans and solutions to ensure order, traffic safety, and smooth communication during the preparation and organization of the election, especially before, during, and after election day.

The Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Public Security shall develop plans and options for deploying forces to ensure political security and social order and safety throughout the process of preparing and organizing the election, paying special attention to ensuring security and order in key areas and areas important to national defense and security; and direct and guide military and police forces to participate in the election.

The Government Inspectorate shall preside over and coordinate with relevant agencies to guide the declaration of assets for candidates nominated for National Assembly deputies and People's Council deputies at all levels under the direction of the National Election Council and the National Assembly Standing Committee; preside over or coordinate with ministries, branches and localities to focus on promptly and legally resolving complaints and denunciations of citizens before, during and after the election.

The Prime Minister requested ministries, branches and localities to urgently deploy preparations and organize the election; strengthen citizen reception, resolve complaints and denunciations about the election work according to their authority, ensuring the success of the election of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term.
