Proactively prevent and fight forest fires

Strictly maintain patrolling, controlling, and issuing forest protection corridors and prepare response plans in case of forest fires. These are tasks that members of the Phan Xi Pang Ward Forest Protection Team regularly carry out, especially during hot days like today.

Mr. Pham Van Vien, Forest Protection Team of Phan Xi Pang Ward, Sa Pa Town said: "The vegetation under the forest canopy is dry, so we are coordinating with Sa Pa Forest Protection Department to immediately propagate and mobilize people not to go into the forest to cultivate, and to always be ready to be on duty, inspect and control key areas."

During the peak hot days, the Forest Protection Department, the Management Board of special-use forests and protective forests of localities in the province strictly maintain 24/7 duty at all forest protection posts and stations in key areas at risk of fire.

Mr. Tran Quang Dai, Deputy Head of Lao Cai City Forest Protection Department (photo above) said: "We have established regular and surprise inspection teams for forest owners as well as People's Committees of communes and wards on fire prevention and fighting. Through the inspection results, reports evaluate and discipline units that have not done well, encourage units that do well, and promote positive aspects."

More than 4,500 members of forest protection teams and groups across the province have also been trained to be ready to respond to situations. Along with that, the work of information forecasting, warning of fire risks, and checking forest fire prevention and fighting equipment has also received special attention from specialized forces, ready to proactively respond when situations arise.

Mr. Nguyen Quang Vinh, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of the province added: "Strengthen propaganda work, raise people's awareness in the work of protecting, preventing and fighting forest fires. Review fire prevention works, arrange more warning signs, and information about fire prevention and fighting work".

It is forecasted that the hot and dry weather will continue to develop complicatedly, causing the risk of forest fires to increase. Therefore, along with the drastic participation of Party committees and authorities, each person needs to raise awareness of strictly implementing regulations on forest fire prevention and fighting, protecting resources, and creating sustainable livelihoods for people.
