Hanoi Club stopped at the qualifying round of the National Cup 2025

On the evening of September 14, at Hang Day Stadium, the qualifying round of the 2025-2026 National Cup between Hanoi Club and The Cong - Viettel took place. This is considered the early final of the tournament when both teams are considered candidates for the championship.

With similar levels, Hanoi Club and The Cong - Viettel entered the match with determination and created an attractive attacking game right from the start.

In the 2nd minute, Hanoi FC threatened the goal with a shot that hit the crossbar by Do Hung Dung. In the 30th minute, The Cong - Viettel responded with a header that hit the post by Kyle Colonna.

The two teams continued to play an open game until the second half. After two clubs missed consecutive opportunities, The Cong - Viettel finally took the lead.

In the 79th minute, Hanoi FC lost the ball in the middle of the field. Lucao do Break got the ball and passed it to Pedro Henrique who sprinted past the entire opponent's defense before coolly shooting to open the score for the army team.

In the remaining minutes, Hanoi made substitutions and tried to push forward to find an equalizer but were not successful against the defense of The Cong - Viettel. In the end, coach Velizar Popov's team won 1-0.

Having to stop early is a pity for Hanoi FC as they are the team with the second most National Cup championships in the history of Vietnamese professional football with 3 crowns.

This is the fourth consecutive season since parting ways with coach Chu Dinh Nghiem in 2022 that Hanoi FC has not been able to win the National Cup. That also shows the continuous difficulties that Hanoi has encountered during the generational transition period.

After defeating Hanoi Club, The Cong - Viettel will meet Cong An Hanoi in the 1-8 round of the 2025 - 2026 National Cup.
