Announcing a natural disaster emergency in Then Van village, Pa Vay Su commune

On the afternoon of October 20, at Then Van village, the People's Committee of Pa Vay Su commune held a ceremony to announce the Provincial People's Committee's Decision on declaring a natural disaster emergency to respond to and overcome the consequences of landslides in the area.

Authorized by the Provincial People's Committee, the leader of Pa Vay Su Commune People's Committee announced the decision on emergency situation regarding natural disasters in Then Van village.

According to the Decision, due to the impact of storm No. 10 and storm No. 11 causing prolonged heavy rain, Then Van village area has experienced serious landslides with an estimated volume of landslides of about 10,000 m³, forming a crack about 600 m long, with the risk of directly affecting the lives and property of 6 households (30 people) and 11 households at risk of affecting their houses, along with many infrastructure works such as schools, medical stations, and houses. Currently, the Kindergarten, Primary School and Medical Station of the commune have many cracks, damaged walls, and rocks and soil have flooded into the public house, endangering 131 students, 36 teachers, medical staff and neighboring households.

Leaders of Pa Vay Su Commune People's Committee and functional forces inspected the site at Pa Vay Su Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities.

Immediately after the decision was announced, the Pa Vay Su commune authorities held a meeting to gather opinions on the plan to move to a safe place. Accordingly, 28 households in the area at risk of landslides agreed and registered to move to a new location, about 2 km from the village center.

Currently, the People's Committee of Pa Vay Su commune is urgently surveying the site, arranging land funds and mobilizing resources to support people in relocation, ensuring safety of life and long-term stability of life.
