The unexpected change of direction of the male student honored as the outstanding young face of 2023

"I couldn't sleep all night, I was both happy and nervous because this morning I got to meet the Prime Minister for the first time. I felt extremely proud and honored," said Dinh Cao Son, a former student of Ha Tinh High School for the Gifted .

Dinh Cao Son is one of the 10 outstanding young Vietnamese faces in 2023, participating in the program " Prime Minister meets and dialogues with youth in 2024" on March 26.

Golden boy of Chemistry

Since high school, Dinh Cao Son has shown his talent and passion for Chemistry. The young man has a series of excellent academic achievements that many people admire: First prize in provincial-level Chemistry competitions for grades 9 and 10, Second prize in national Chemistry competitions for grades 11, First prize in national Chemistry competitions for grades 12.

Valuable experience from the exams helps the Ha Tinh male student confidently conquer the challenge in the international arena at the 2023 International Chemistry Olympiad IchO and bring pride to Vietnam.

Dinh Cao Son performed well in the practical part with a result of 87%, a total score of 82.14/100. After 2 days of competition with more than 300 contestants from 89 countries and territories around the world, Son won an impressive Gold Medal, with the leading score of the Vietnamese delegation, ranking 7th in the world.

Conquering the "ladders" in Chemistry, Son modestly said: "My concept is that in every exam I have to try my best, and I don't know what my ranking will be, because it depends on other students. My task is to try so that when I finish the exam I have no regrets."

In his spare time, he likes to read books, play badminton or play a few games to relieve stress, as long as it is not too time-consuming. This helps Son balance between entertainment and study.

Want to be a chemistry teacher

After achieving success at the International Olympic Competition, unlike the tradition of choosing Medical University or University of Natural Sciences of the Chemistry Olympic team members, Dinh Cao Son chose to study at Hanoi Pedagogical University. Son is a student of K37 majoring in Chemistry Education at the school.

The young man's decision surprised many people. "Everyone thought I would become a chemical researcher, but I wanted to be a teacher," Son confided.

For Son, Chemistry is an interesting subject and it would be a pity if he did not bring those interesting things to the next generations. Son wants to share his love of Chemistry with more people instead of letting Chemistry be the 'fear' of students forever.

Before becoming a new student at the school, Son had spent 2 months studying here while participating in training for the 2023 International Chemistry Olympiad. That period of time made Son love this environment and want to stay.

"This is the right environment for me to hone my teaching skills to prepare for my future career," Son said.

Entering the student environment, Dinh Cao Son still maintains a modest attitude in studying, always trying to practice and learn from teachers and friends. In addition to studying, Son also spends time participating in other social activities.

Son has no intention of studying abroad, he wants to complete his 4 years at the Pedagogical College well, then continue his studies at higher levels in Vietnam.

Looking back on the past journey and what he has achieved, the young man is happy and proud. Especially, when he was honored as one of the 10 outstanding young faces of 2023, and participated in a dialogue with the Prime Minister, Son felt more responsible.

"I will try my best to study and work hard to contribute to building an increasingly prosperous country," Cao Son determined.
