The situation of Vietnamese cinema after the boost from Tran Thanh and Ly Hai

According to Box Office Vietnam - an independent box office monitoring unit - from the beginning of the year to June 30, domestic cinema revenue reached VND2,751 billion, an increase of nearly 25% over the same period last year.

Tran Thanh and Ly Hai's films alone have surpassed the 1,000 billion VND mark.

Accordingly, the two Vietnamese works contributed more than 36% of the total revenue in the first six months of 2024. Apart from these two projects, most of the Vietnamese films released in theaters were stillborn, some films left theaters with only a few hundred million VND in revenue while the capital outlay was up to tens of billions of VND.

In the second half of 2024, the Vietnamese cinema landscape will have interesting unknowns when a series of new projects are expected to premiere.

Colorful, overwhelming horror film

In the second half of 2024, there will be 4 horror projects announced for release including: "Getting Rich with Ghosts", "Ghost Skin", "Con Cam", "Linh Lynx". Most of these films are based on folklore themes that are quite familiar to audiences.

After the movie "Ghost Dog", director Luu Thanh Luan and creative director Vo Thanh Hoa released "Lynx". Movie carrying a message about karma with the participation of Hong Dao and Miss Thuy Tien.

Producer duo Hoang Quan - director Tran Huu Tan just announced the release of a new project called "Con Cam". Thuy Diem plays the mother in the movie "Con Cam".

The movie "Ghost" starring Viet Huong has just released its first images. The movie has the image of "ghost pulling legs" reminiscent of scary folk tales in Vietnamese culture.

The comedy film project combining family and spiritual themes called "Getting Rich with Ghosts" by director Nguyen Nhat Trung has just started, with Tuan Tran taking on the main role.

Film adaptation of the novel attracts attention

In the second half of 2024, many film projects will be adapted from famous stories. Among them are "Kaleidoscope" and "Once Upon a Time There Was a Love Story".

"Kaleidoscope" movie version by director Vo Thanh Hoa. He met with writer Nguyen Nhat Anh to understand more about the work. The writer said that he respects the filmmaker so he did not interfere with the idea or the filming process.

Director Trinh Dinh Le Minh will make the movie "Once Upon a Time There Was a Love Story", adapted from the memorable novel by writer Nguyen Nhat Anh.

The book was first published in 2016 and has been reprinted more than 10 times. "Once upon a time there was a love story" is loved by readers in many places because of its gentle, romantic story full of contemplation about love and maturity.

Many other genres are equally noteworthy.

"Cong Tu Bac Lieu " is a project directed by Ly Minh Thang, expected to be released in theaters in 2024. This is the first movie licensed for filming by the People's Committee of Bac Lieu province, aiming to contribute to promoting the unique cultural imprints of the locality on the big screen.
