Most of the rehearsals and ceremonies were completed before the official opening of the Games, including site inspections and verification that all equipment met international standards for each sport. The Organizing Committee also developed contingency plans, ensuring safety, access control measures, athlete protection and risk prevention, in accordance with international regulations for major sporting events.
Asian Youth Games: Bahrain enters the sprint stage
Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa also highlighted the support and cooperation of relevant organizations, in collaboration with the Olympic Council of Asia, to bring about an unprecedented and successful Games. According to this official, "Bahrain has repeatedly demonstrated its capacity to organize and run continental and international sporting events, with the support of advanced infrastructure and high expertise."
Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa added that excellence in organisation was as important as performance and expressed confidence that the high expectations for the national team athletes, who were competing on home soil for the first time, would be met. The official also stressed the importance of young athletes, saying their participation and preparation would help promote the Kingdom on the international stage.
The facilities for athletes and delegations are complete and operational. National teams will soon arrive to acclimatize to the weather conditions, which are significantly different from their usual environment. The country has also invested significantly in transportation and logistics to ensure efficient movement between venues and accommodation. Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa also praised the strong government support for sport in Bahrain, describing it as fundamental to the success of the Games.
More than 4,300 athletes from 45 Asian countries will compete in 24 official sports and two demonstration events. Preparations have been completed at 23 sports venues and more than 30 training facilities across Bahrain's governorates.
The event was originally scheduled to take place in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, from September 7 to 17, 2025. However, due to delays in infrastructure construction, the Olympic Council of Asia officially moved the Games to Bahrain on December 2, 2024. As a result, the work has been very urgent, with upgrades and renovations to many venues being carried out 10 months ago to serve one of Asia's most important sporting events.
Bahrain hopes to seize the opportunity and turn the event into a showcase for young athletes aspiring to compete at the Dakar Youth Olympic Games, which will take place from October 31 to November 13, 2026.
