Has Jiuzhaigou Recovered from the 2017 Earthquake?

VnExpressVnExpress26/09/2023

I see many tours to Jiuzhaigou this fall and want to ask if the tourist attractions there have fully recovered after the 2017 earthquake, what should I pay attention to when traveling?

I am planning to go to Jiuzhaigou next month as I see many tours are open again. However, I am still wondering if the place has recovered since it was severely affected by the earthquake. Also, will there be any impact on travel and sightseeing after Covid-19?

Thanks.

A representative of a Vietnamese travel company said that this fall, Jiuzhaigou is one of the outstanding destinations for Vietnamese tourists.

Jiuzhaigou is a nature reserve and national park in northern Sichuan province, China, recognized by UNESCO as a world heritage site in 1992 and a world biosphere reserve in 1997.

After the earthquake on August 8, 2017 and the Covid-19 period, most destinations in Jiuzhaigou have almost completely recovered. Except for the most severely affected area, the Ritzegou Valley, which is still under repair, other places can welcome visitors as usual. At the end of October, the red-yellow leaf index reached 60 to 95% of the forest area, ideal for experiencing autumn.

Jiuzhaigou is more than 400 km from Chengdu (where the airport is located). The drive takes about 8 hours. There are many beautiful scenes along the way. The road to Jiuzhaigou is mostly mountainous, and those unfamiliar with the road will easily get tired.

According to information newly updated by tour guides for the 2023 tourist season, group visitors will pass through 5 locations including Truong Hai, Ngu Sac Lake, Nhuoc Nhat Waterfall, Thuc Chinh Cau, and Song Long Hai.

Jiuzhaigou currently only sells 40,000 admission tickets per day. During peak tourist season, tickets should be booked early.

Vietnam Airlines resumed direct flights from Hanoi to Chengdu from October 27, so traveling to Chengdu - Jiuzhaigou in the coming period will be more affordable and time-saving. In the past, tourists had to transit many times.

Reference tour prices to Jiuzhaigou from travel companies in Vietnam:

- Vietravel: 6-day 5-night tour Chengdu - Jiuzhaigou - Panda Garden - Butterfly Creek departing from Hanoi costs from 16.9 million VND per person and Chengdu - Emei Mountain - Jiuzhaigou - Leshan Giant Buddha from 18.9 million VND per person.

- Pys Travel: Chongqing - Chengdu - Jiuzhaigou 7 days 6 nights tour departing from Ho Chi Minh City costs 18.8 million VND per person.

- Vietnam Tour: Chengdu - Jiuzhaigou - Dujiangyan, departing from Ho Chi Minh City, 6 days 5 nights, price from 17.9 million VND.
