The Philippines is also the sole representative of Southeast Asian volleyball at this year’s world championships. However, their 56th ranking makes their hopes of making it to the knockout stage quite low.

The organizing committee (OC) tried to choose opponents of moderate level so that the Philippines could have a watchable opening match. The host's opening match opponent was Tunisia (ranked 40th in the world).
Despite this somewhat favorable choice, the Philippines still had to accept a heavy defeat against the representative of African volleyball.
In the first half, the Philippines seemed overwhelmed by the atmosphere of the world championship. The Philippines lost quickly in this match with a score of 13-25.
The Philippines played better in the second half, but they were still not strong enough to surprise Tunisia. The Philippine men's volleyball team continued to lose quickly in the second half with a score of 17-25.
It was not until the third set that the home team played better, they fought for points with Tunisia in this set. However, that was not enough for the Philippines to avoid defeat in the third set with a score of 23-25.
In the end, the Philippine men's volleyball team lost to Tunisia 0-3 (13-25, 17-25 and 23-25). This defeat narrowed the Philippines' chances of advancing to the group stage. In Group A, besides the Philippines and Tunisia, there are two stronger teams: Iran (ranked 15th in the world) and Egypt (ranked 20th in the world).
The men's world volleyball championship will take place from September 12 to September 28 in the Philippines' Pasay and Quezon cities. The tournament will feature 32 teams.
