Monkeypox has been reported in the community but is not easily outbreak-prone.

One year after the first monkeypox case was recorded in Vietnam, the country has recorded two new cases this September, a patient in Dong Nai temporarily residing in Ho Chi Minh City and a patient in Binh Duong (a case that had contact with a case in Dong Nai).

Commenting on the monkeypox epidemic in Vietnam, an expert said that the pathogen is in the community, because these cases have never been abroad. Monkeypox does not easily become an epidemic, so we should not be too worried but also not subjective. Each person needs to proactively take disease prevention measures according to the instructions of health authorities.

Many ways of transmitting infectious diseases

According to Dr. Luong Chan Quang, Deputy Head of the Department of Disease Control and Prevention, Pasteur Institute, Ho Chi Minh City, the two newly recorded monkeypox patients developed the disease at their place of residence, and had no history of contact with foreigners or recent travel abroad.

Professor Phan Trong Lan, Director of the Department of Preventive Medicine ( Ministry of Health ), acknowledged that many new epidemics have appeared recently. Diseases such as dengue fever, which were previously localized, are now spreading rapidly. There are epidemics transmitted by vectors (mosquitoes, insects); or epidemics caused by viruses that can be transmitted through sexual intercourse, blood transfusion, etc.

Diseases that have existed in the past are also changing. For example, monkeypox in Africa has now spread globally and to special subjects, with special transmission routes.

According to Mr. Lan, infectious diseases around the world are becoming more and more unpredictable. For the current epidemics, we implement individual measures for each disease. With the emergence of more and more new epidemics, to make the most of society's resources, we must take comprehensive precautions on infectious diseases and on transmission routes. In particular, we need to be prepared in advance.

"Epidemic prevention and control does not have a formula, but depends on the epidemiological characteristics and prevention and control measures of each locality, and are specified at each time," Mr. Lan noted.
