Proposal to invest in the 800 billion VND coal transit and processing warehouse project in Quang Tri

At the meeting, representatives of the Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Group informed about production and business activities in Quang Tri.

Accordingly, in Quang Tri , all Lao coal imported into Vietnam is currently cleared through La Lay border gate and transported to warehouses at the two ports of Hon La (Quang Tri) and Chan May (Hue).

A representative of the Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Group said that in order to ensure a stable supply of coal for thermal power plants, as well as to complete the Government's task of importing 5 million tons of Lao coal to Vietnam in the coming time, the Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Group has directed the Northern Coal Trading Joint Stock Company to propose investing in the Quang Tri coal transit, processing and blending warehouse project in the Southeast of My Thuy Port, in the Southeast Quang Tri Economic Zone.

The project has a total estimated investment of 800 billion VND, a land use area of about 40 hectares, a designed capacity of 4-5 million tons/year and will expand to 8-10 million tons/year. However, the project has not yet been approved for investment due to the lack of adjustment to the general planning for the construction of the Southeast Economic Zone.

Representatives of the Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group have requested the Provincial Party Committee and People's Committee of Quang Tri province to consider and soon approve the project to adjust the general planning for the construction of the Southeast Economic Zone and approve the location for project implementation.

Also at the meeting, in response to the request from the investor, the Secretary of the Quang Tri Provincial Party Committee requested the leaders of the Provincial People's Committee to direct relevant agencies to coordinate with the Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Group to thoroughly resolve the recommendations and proposals; relevant departments and branches must make the most of time, and speed up the progress of tasks under the province's authority, ensuring legal regulations to soon complete legal procedures, promptly remove difficulties and obstacles and make proposals to businesses as quickly as possible, in accordance with regulations.

For his part, Chairman of the Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee Tran Phong said that the Provincial People's Committee committed to directing relevant departments and branches to soon complete procedures to approve the Project to Adjust the General Planning for the Construction of the Southeast Economic Zone, and at the same time assign the Economic Zone Management Board to guide the Northern Coal Trading Joint Stock Company to complete the documents and approve the project location.
