Proposal to establish a national council on universities and enterprises

According to Prof. Dr. Chu Duc Trinh, Principal of the University of Technology, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, the human resources trained by universities are the input labor force of enterprises. Therefore, the quality of training of the school directly affects the operational efficiency and sustainable development of the business sector.

If the national council can act as a bridge, helping businesses provide complete and timely information on labor needs and directly respond to training institutions, the curriculum will be adjusted to be closer to reality, thereby better meeting the requirements of the labor market.

Mr. Trinh believes that this council can solve some current problems. In reality, there is no complete and reliable forecasting system for short-term, medium-term and long-term human resource needs from businesses. University training programs last from 4-5 years, so accurately forecasting medium- and long-term needs is really important, helping to orient students' majors and careers right from high school.

The work of forecasting and providing information on the labor market is still lacking and weak, causing career counseling activities for high school students not to be closely linked with national human resource planning. If the council has a strong enough mechanism to solve this problem, this will be a step forward to improve the connection between training and human resource use.

The council also needs to be able to forecast the quality of human resources. This is to build common standards on skills and competencies, and closely link them to the output standards of training institutions from vocational to university. “Only when the output quality of learners meets the long-term requirements of businesses, will the link between training and employment be truly sustainable. This is one of the core issues that the council needs to focus on solving,” said Mr. Trinh.
