In 2024, Phu Yen General Hospital treated 1,229 patients with cerebral infarction and 351 patients with cerebral hemorrhage. In the first 6 months of 2025, the corresponding figures were 730 and 180. Based on an incidence rate of about 200/100,000 people/year and a regional population of approximately 1 million, it is estimated that there are about 2,000 new stroke cases each year in the eastern region of Dak Lak province.
Thus, Phu Yen General Hospital is receiving and treating nearly 3/4 of the region's new stroke cases. This affirms its leading role in stroke care in the locality.

Along with that, the hospital also has enough human resources, facilities, equipment, drugs, consumables... in diagnosing and treating stroke. Therefore, Phu Yen General Hospital decided to establish a Stroke Unit under the Department of Neurology - Endocrinology.

Doctor CKII Tran Anh Dung, Director of the hospital, said: "The establishment of the Stroke Unit will help reduce the overload at upper-level hospitals, help treat patients on-site in the province and neighboring areas, as well as create opportunities for the hospital to continue developing high-quality human resources, promote scientific research and apply the latest achievements of medicine into practice."

Speaking at the conference, Dr. Pham Minh Huu, Deputy Director of the Department of Health, said: "The Stroke Unit needs to quickly stabilize its organization, synchronously deploy professional processes, optimize emergency care, diagnosis and treatment; continuously raise public awareness by coordinating with lower-level medical facilities and the media so that people know how to recognize early signs of stroke and promptly take them to the hospital for treatment...".
On this occasion, Phu Yen General Hospital also organized a scientific seminar on Recanalization treatment in acute cerebral infarction, with the participation of specialists from People's Hospital 115, Tay Nguyen University, Phu Yen General Hospital around the issue of stroke.
