According to data just announced by the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, the benchmark scores for specialized 10th grade in 2023 will increase or decrease compared to 2022 depending on the school and specialized subject.

At Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted : The benchmark score for 10th grade physics increased by 2.5 points; for biology increased by 1.75 points; for math increased by 1.25 points; for IT increased by 0.25 points.

Grade 10 literature major decreased by 0.75 points, and English major decreased by 0.5 points.

The specialized chemistry class of Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted remains the same as last year, at 36 points.

At Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted : English major decreased by 1.5 points; geography major increased by 2.75 points; physics major increased by 2.25 points; Japanese major decreased by 1.5 points; literature major decreased by 0.75 points; chemistry major decreased by 1.5 points; information technology major decreased by 3 points; history major decreased by 0.5 points.

Teachers explain the reasons for the increase and decrease in the benchmark scores of specialized 10th graders.

Some homeroom teachers of grade 9 at Nguyen Du Secondary School (District 1) assessed that each school increased or decreased the admission scores for grade 10 differently for each subject. However, some specialized subjects increased or decreased almost simultaneously. For example, the admission scores for specialized math classes increased in most schools, while those for specialized English classes decreased.

Specifically, the math class of Mac Dinh Chi High School (District 6) leads the list of schools with an increase in benchmark scores, with 5.25 points; Nguyen Huu Huan High School increased by 3 points; Tran Dai Nghia High School increased by 1.25 points. Nguyen Thuong Hien High School, Gia Dinh also increased by 1 point.

Meanwhile, the admission scores for the 10th grade English major of the above mentioned high schools all decreased. All schools decreased by 0.5-1.5 points and Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted had the biggest decrease in admission scores.

Talking to Thanh Nien Newspaper reporter, teacher Dang Huu Tri, head of the math group at Nguyen Du Ly Secondary School, explained that the increase in the standard scores for grade 10 specialized math in all high schools comes from the fact that the math exam in the 3 compulsory subjects has a good level of differentiation. Therefore, the candidates who register for grade 10 specialized are all candidates with good academic performance, so the math test results are high. The difficulty level of the specialized math exam is similar to last year. Therefore, this could be the reason affecting the fluctuation of the specialized standard scores in an upward direction.

Similarly, talking about the decrease in the benchmark scores for 10th grade English majors, teacher Ho Thi Bich Ty, head of the English group at Ha Huy Tap Secondary School (Binh Thanh District), said that while the English exam in the three compulsory subjects is considered easy, the specialized English exam is "harder" than last year. Among them, there are students who are good at English at the city level and only get 5-6 points. The specialized exam has a high level of differentiation, leading to a sharp decrease in the benchmark scores.

After announcing the benchmark scores for specialized and integrated 10th grade, Mr. Vo Thien Cang, Head of the Examination and Quality Control Department, Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, said that the Department has adjusted the application submission time from the date of announcement of results to 5:00 p.m. on June 30 (instead of June 29 as previously announced). Candidates, based on the announced benchmark scores, will submit their applications within the prescribed time at the high schools where they have registered their wishes.

After this period, all successful candidates who do not submit their applications will have their names removed from the list of successful candidates for specialized 10th grade and will be transferred to consider their 3 regular 10th grade wishes.
