The Provincial People's Council's supervision delegation worked with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development on the implementation of policies and laws on investment, management and exploitation of irrigation works.

On June 26, the Provincial People's Council's Supervisory Delegation led by Mr. Tran Minh Nam, member of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda and Education Commission, Head of the Provincial People's Council's Economic and Budget Commission, had a working session with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) on thematic supervision of "Implementation of policies and laws on investment, management and exploitation of irrigation works in the province, period 2016-2022".

According to the report, in the period of 2016-2022, with the attention of the Government, the Central Ministries and branches have supported the province with funding to invest in developing the irrigation system in accordance with the Ninh Thuan Provincial Irrigation Planning, gradually creating a synchronous, modern, and highly interconnected irrigation infrastructure system. Of which, 1,789 irrigation projects and works have been invested and implemented with a total implementation cost of nearly VND 4,651 billion. Ensuring the exploitation, management, and effective use of water resources for daily life and production in a cost-saving and sustainable manner, minimizing damage caused by natural disasters and responding to climate change. Units and localities assigned to manage, exploit, and operate the works regularly inspect and evaluate the current status of the works, thereby improving the efficiency of the works after investment. To date, the province has 22 reservoirs with a total storage capacity of 414.29 million m3, 4 large dams, and 90 small dams. The canal system is 2,244 km long; the dykes and embankments to prevent riverbank and coastal erosion are 62.5 km long.

Comrade Tran Minh Nam, Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda Department, Head of the Provincial People's Council's Economic - Budget Committee, led the delegation to supervise at the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.

In addition to the achieved results, the investment, management and exploitation of irrigation works still face some difficulties such as: Unfavorable weather conditions affect the completion of construction items according to the approved schedule; compensation and site clearance work still takes a long time; funding sources for investment in the construction of irrigation infrastructure systems are still limited; violations of the protection scope of irrigation works by some individuals and organizations are still quite common; comprehensive investment in work items serving dam safety management according to regulations due to lack of funding...

Concluding the working session, the Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda Department noted that in the coming time, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development will continue to focus on ensuring the safety of dams and dykes; allocate a balanced and reasonable amount of capital to serve the work of ensuring the safety of dams and dykes; closely coordinate with local authorities in decentralizing management, maintenance, repair, and effective exploitation of invested works and irrigation systems, and effectively use water resources. With the recommendations of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Monitoring Delegation noted them to forward to the Provincial People's Council and People's Committee for consideration and resolution.
