Chinese gaming team shockingly lost to Vietnamese representative

On the afternoon of October 8, the second day of the League of Legends Asia Invitational 2025 (ASI) took place online. The opening match between GAM Esports (Vietnam) and JDG (China) received a lot of attention with the participation of many famous players. However, the Vietnamese representative was still rated one level lower. Jindong Gaming (JDG) lost the ticket to the League of Legends World Finals (Worlds 2025) but was still in the top group of the Chinese LPL.

In addition to their achievements, JDG players are also famous and have many more international achievements. ADC Peyz won MSI with Gen.G in 2024. Scout won the 2021 world championship and Xun finished second in 2024. In history, no Vietnamese team has ever won against China in BO3 format (3 wins 2).

Therefore, GAM's performance against JDG on the afternoon of October 8 surprised fans. The Vietnamese team dominated both games, rising up with confident individual plays and ending the game. In the middle of the match, the bravery of the top players from Jindong made GAM lose their advantage, making fans' hearts stop. However, the big gap could not be filled in a single fight.

Levi (jungle) and Aress (mid-laner) were the two most prominent players on GAM’s side in this match. These players were the most criticized in the team’s “disastrous” season in 2025. GAM performed poorly in the LCP tournament, dropping their ticket to Worlds for the first time in many years. The team also failed to participate in the final round held in Da Nang recently. After that, the Vietnamese teams had to watch CFO (Taipei, China) take the throne at home.

League of Legends Asia Invitational 2025 (ASI) is a tournament organized for Asian teams (Korea, China, Vietnam) to participate. The invited teams are those who did not get tickets to the League of Legends World Finals. Therefore, it does not have much significance in terms of achievements. However, the prize money of up to 80,000 USD makes the teams take the tournament seriously.
