Vietnam national team gathers in October 2025: Nguyen Filip eliminated

Nguyen Filip could not keep his position under coach Kim Sang-sik.

Today, coach Kim Sang-sik announced the list of 24 players for the Vietnamese national team to prepare for the two matches against Nepal in the final qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup. Nepal is the weakest team in the group, and the Korean coach is not afraid to make many bold changes in this training session.

Specifically, coach Kim Sang-sik called up 8 young players who just helped U23 Vietnam win the U23 Southeast Asia Championship and qualify for the U23 Asia 2026, including Tran Trung Kien, Khuat Van Khang, Nguyen Hieu Minh, Nguyen Xuan Bac, Nguyen Thanh Nhan, Nguyen Phi Hoang, Nguyen Nhat Minh and Nguyen Dinh Bac. Of these, only Van Khang and Dinh Bac have been "regularly selected". The other faces will have a great opportunity to prove their talent to coach Kim Sang-sik.

In parallel, coach Kim Sang-sik also called up veteran stars such as Do Duy Manh, Bui Tien Dung, Pham Xuan Manh, Pham Tuan Hai, Nguyen Hai Long, Nguyen Hoang Duc, Nguyen Quang Hai, and Nguyen Tien Linh. The only naturalized player to join the team this time is Cao Pentdant Quang Vinh.

On the other hand, many familiar stars were removed by the Korean coach. Most notably, goalkeeper Nguyen Filip and central defender Bui Hoang Viet Anh, both from the Hanoi Police Club. Nguyen Filip has been in poor form recently, while Viet Anh is resting to recuperate.

Besides Nguyen Filip, goalkeeper Dinh Trieu is also absent for unknown reasons. Meanwhile, Dang Van Lam was recalled by coach Kim Sang-sik after his excellent performance in Ninh Binh this season. It is likely that Van Lam and Trung Kien will compete for the starting position in the upcoming match against Nepal.

According to the plan, the Vietnamese team will gather on October 4 in Ho Chi Minh City to begin the preparation phase. The first leg will take place on October 9 at Go Dau Stadium, while the second leg will be held on October 14 at Thong Nhat Stadium (Ho Chi Minh City).

The organizers have also announced the ticket issuance plan: tickets will be sold online exclusively via the OneU application (formerly VinID) from September 29 to October 7 in two phases. At the same time, tickets will be sold directly at the ticket counters of Go Dau and Thong Nhat stadiums from October 4. The two ticket prices are 200,000 VND and 400,000 VND; fans can receive tickets via the delivery service of Vietnam Post or directly at the post offices of their choice.
