Attending the workshop were Mr. Do Van Van, Director of the Southern Center for Cultivation and Plant Protection; Ms. Nguyen Huu Diem Ha and Ms. Vu Hong Trang, officers of the International Rice Research Institute; Mr. Le Chi Thien, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment; along with local leaders, supporting enterprises, cooperatives and local farmers.
Delegates visited the pilot model of "High quality and low emission rice cultivation". |
The workshop aimed to evaluate the results of the pilot model implemented at My Thanh Bac Agricultural Service Cooperative in the summer-autumn crop of 2025 and to disseminate information to officials and farmers in the Project area on highly effective solutions to replicate the model in the coming time.
At the workshop, the representative of the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection reported on the summary of the model implementation results. The results showed that the height of the rice plant in the model (sowing the correct amount of seeds according to the process) was 1.1 - 2.2 cm lower than the control and 2.3 - 3.8 cm lower than the rice in the model (with additional seeds).
This shows that when sowing at a density of 70 kg/ha, the rice plants are airy, receive enough light for photosynthesis and focus on the tillering stage. In addition, the model applies the alternating wet and dry method so the rice roots develop strongly, grow deep, help strengthen the plants, limit falling, the plants grow more durable and greener than the control.
Mr. Do Van Van, Director of the Southern Center for Cultivation and Plant Protection, spoke at the workshop. |
The application of high-quality, low-emission rice cultivation processes helps reduce pests and diseases (reduce 3-4 sprays/crop). The yield of the model is 0.11-0.42 tons/ha higher than outside the model and the model has additional seeds. The model gives higher profits and reduces production costs.
In addition, the products from the model provided to consumers ensure quality safety, contributing to improving the quality of life of the people, creating a premise for the continued effective implementation of the Project "Sustainable development of one million hectares of high-quality and low-emission rice cultivation associated with green growth in the Mekong Delta by 2030", striving to reach 75,000 hectares of high-quality rice by the end of 2025, reducing emissions in Dong Thap province.
Comrade Le Chi Thien, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, spoke at the workshop. |
Speaking at the workshop, comrade Le Chi Thien said that this model brings very good economic efficiency to rice farmers. In the coming time, the agricultural sector together with My Thanh commune and My Thanh Bac Agricultural Service Cooperative will promote and propagate to expand the rice growing area according to this model.
He also added about the advantages of rice production according to the model such as: Reducing greenhouse gas emissions, reducing production costs... ensuring product quality and taking advantage of straw by-products to process products that bring high added value, thereby helping farmers have higher income.
