(Fatherland) - The train is located at the intersection of Ngu Xa - Truc Bach, next to the night food street of Ngoc Dao Ngu Xa (Truc Bach ward, Ba Dinh district), also known as "Train line No. 6 - Subsidized Car: Kitchen - Cupboard - Tray"
Located right at the intersection of Ngu Xa - Truc Bach, a special space named "Train Line No. 6 - Subsidized Car: Kitchen - Cupboard - Tray" is a nostalgic destination.
This is a project directed by the People's Committee of Truc Bach Ward (Ba Dinh District, Hanoi ), open to visitors for free, to recreate the atmosphere of old Hanoi and introduce Vietnamese culture and cuisine.
The project "Train Line No. 6" is named based on the idea of a tram line continuing the mission of the old Hanoi metro system of 5 lines, which stopped operating since 1991. This is an unforgettable part of the memories of the people of the capital living in the last century. The kitchen area with familiar items of any Hanoi family in the 80s and 90s of the last century. A simple kitchen with tripod, firewood, pots and pans, mortar and pestle, thermos, kerosene stove...
The cupboard used to be a familiar item in every kitchen. The cupboard was made from leftover pieces of wood or bought pre-made from commercial stores. In the cupboard, there were dishes, a few leftovers from lunch or breakfast, rarely any food stored for too long because that was the time when there was not enough to eat, let alone too much.
The tray area recreates the rice trays and dishes that were once classics of a difficult time such as pickled cabbage, pickled eggplant, roasted peanuts mixed with fat, boiled morning glory, mixed vegetables, boiled jackfruit seeds, burnt rice, Chinese jujube, braised shrimp with star fruit...
The once famous brands are present at the "Kitchen - Cupboard - Tray Subsidy Cart".
The outdoor space is arranged with a mobile cinema with an old-fashioned peacock blanket backdrop, a drink stall and photo corners.
A beverage stand with a sign that says "iced drinks".
Ms. Dieu Huong (representative of the implementing unit) shared: "We want to recreate an image of old Hanoi as closely as possible through the image of the kitchen, the cupboard, the tray of food, and the tea shop. For example, this tea shop recreates the original traditional tea shop of Hanoi, which is tea and cups. After unification, refrigerators gradually became more popular in Hanoi. At that time, the need for food preservation was not much because at that time there was not enough food. Therefore, the biggest function of the refrigerator was to make ice, and when there was a surplus, those households would sell it to tea shops. And almost any tea shop with ice would sell better because ice is suitable for the hot summer weather in Hanoi."
A very old corner of Hanoi with images of 2-spoked Phoenix bicycles, original iron electric poles...
Foreign tourists enjoy learning and experiencing a space imbued with Vietnamese culture during the subsidy period, sitting on tiny tables and chairs with a cool glass of water.
Foreign tourists enjoy experiencing special things only available at the "Kitchen - Cupboard - Tray Subsidy Cart"
Ms. Kathie Jay (American tourist) shared: "I don't know much about Vietnam, but when visiting and listening to the tour guide, I can feel that you have overcome a very difficult, deprived but also very memorable period."
This nostalgic space has 2 floors. The first floor of the tram car is a space to display old artifacts like a "miniature museum". The second floor is an area for visitors to enjoy food and sightsee.
There is also a newsstand and chess area for visitors to experience.
In addition to being a space to display old artifacts, Toa Bao Cap also serves dishes and drinks with the flavors of old Hanoi. The menu of this compartment is quite diverse with refreshments such as iced tea, green tea, and artichoke with prices starting from only 5,000 VND. The menu also has familiar snacks of the older generation such as gai cake, molasses cake, lam cake, longan cake, peanut candy, banana jam, sour sausage... with prices ranging from 10,000 to 60,000 VND.
The Kitchen - Pantry - Tray Subsidy Cart is open free of charge from 3pm to 10pm every day, at the Ngu Xa - Truc Bach intersection, Ba Dinh District, Hanoi. "Train Line No. 6" promises to be an unmissable destination for those who want to learn about Vietnamese history, culture and cuisine.
